Anyone with any knowledge about EASSy bandwidth. Seacom created such a stir in the market yet we hear absolutely nothing from EASSy?

All I heard is that it's live, but I don't know which companies are making use of it..

It will probably take a while for it to filter through to us.

EASSy live - more information

No need for confusion - Seacom is a private system and so needed to find buyers fast. EASSy is a consortium system consisting of 26 telcos and carriers, each with its own market and customer base and mostly with ther own fibre-optic networks. These carriers are selling capacity on EASSy in Africa - both retail and wholesale. WIOCC is the largest EASSy shareholder - owning just under 30% of the system capacity, and is in discussions with other African and international carriers about purchasing capacity on EASSy.

EASSy officially went live on 31st July 2010, and customer traffic is being loaded onto the system. With 26 telcos and carriers involved in EASSy there is a lot of traffic to be loaded on - around 20Gbps has already been sold!

Within the last couple of weeks, it was also announced that EASSy has been upgraded to a 3.84Tbps system - making it by far the largest serving sub-Saharan Africa.

You can find more information (including consortium members) at:
www.wiocc.net
www.eassy.org

or just by typing 'EASSy' into Google, and more specifically the Google News search.

Let me know if you need any further information, or contact [email protected]

Well here's my 2c...

I've noticed lately that many non-telkom accounts have been nice and quick for some weeks now. I use a few different isps at different locations and have always been fed this "SAIX is best - don't touch IS" for some years. Well, I'm personally considering changing that way of thinking. IMHO telkom and saix are dropping the ball nowadays. I hear of fibre going down, isp's building their own infrastructure, etc, etc. All I can say is it seems to show. I've just got myself the Axxess Lite R19 per gig package from Axxess and it's performing much better than a number of saix accounts I've tried. Especially on P2P.

Unless someone can convince me otherwise, I'm no longer going to believe this "SAIX is superior" stuff. Perhaps EASSy has something to do with this?

Axxess Lite uses SEACOM as far as I am aware.

So far no word on any ISP's offering EASSY bandwidth

Ja - Let's 're-rail' this thread. Why nothing about EASSy? I remember the wet dream we all had a few months ago when seacom arrived. Nice to know from any 'insiders' if particular isp's are utilising it yet.
