EASSy to launch in August

The World Bank country director, Colin Bruce said cheap telecommunication would help Africa leapfrog into the 21st century.
We'd already be in the 21st century if it wasnt for Telkom and their protectors in government.

And it will only lead to cheaper telecoms if telkom has no say in the pricing structure of eassy, if they do it'll just mean more profits for telkom and the same or higher price for us

Maybe in Kenya prices will go down even further. I do not think this will be the case here at home. We will need to recoup our initial investment for the next 25 years until we install another cable/technology somewhere else to 'lower telecom costs...'

If SA built 30 8000GB/s cables from here to the UK at a total cost of 10usd, we would still have to recoup costs until they were obsolete. that is the way things work here, so stop complaining or leave lol Im sorry but it is really becomming a joke now. plus its been a long week and i think my mind has fled to a bandwidth rich country.

Afaik, one of the features of the EASSy cable is to allow any operator to use the cable - unlike with the SAT-3, which is of course good news for us.

and telskum will have a law passed preventing any operator from purchasing international bandwidth from anyone but themselves:D

It all depends on who owns the landing station and how they will want to recoup their setup costs....
