Easy Equities good or bad?

A definite No-No for trading shares on the JSE. For more details, please see my previous posts.

In all fairness, I probably wont be investing in direct shares anymore.

I dont have the time to really focus on stock picking so could to sell those once the market picks up and focus on ETF's.

So, I have to ask..

After doing some research, I am debating getting into bed with EE. Thee offering is nice, cheap and allows me to use a single platform to manage multiple EFT's/shares etc....BUT not sure about the support?

Any opinions. I am seeing quiet a few complaints on hellopeter around lack of support, change change banking details, no way of withdrawing the funds from them?

Is anyone experiencing similar concerns? I know they have had teething issues in the past which is expected but looking for a fresh perspective so I know whether to invest.

EE is great 99% of the time for 99% of the people. They have problems, yes, and their support has been either completely clueless or very helpful. How often do you really need support though? Rarely.

To summarize: Is it possible to lose more money than you put in with EE or to be in debt to them?

You can’t.

To lose more than you put in you have to make use of geared products like CFDs and EE doesn’t support that. Worst that can happen is that you lose everything and walk out with R0.

The three or so times I've needed their support has been quite painful. I found that whoever I was dealing with didn't quite understand what I meant. I've found their social media team quite competent though.

I've never had issues trying to withdraw.

They are not perfect but I'm quite happy with them overall.

They have upset done vocal users a lot, and they have been experiencing a bit of downtime a lot lately, which they always seem to be working on to improve. That said, they do tend to listen to their clients, and the CEO is quite active on Twitter.

They also seem to try get new products up and running. Their offering hasn't stagnated. Their TFSA is also very good IMO, lots of ETFs to choose from. In the time since I've opened my account, they've started their thrive program which brings down transaction costs if you are willing to go through the admin, added some etf picker product (don't use), they've added easy properties, and you can now buy shares on the aus stock exchange. I'm sure I'm missing a few things.

As someone else mentioned, they are good for buying and holding. Their delay pricing makes it borderline unpredictable to buy and sell at specific prices so it's not a good platform if day trading is your thing. I vaguely recall them mentioning that they are adding support to pay a bit more to get live pricing or something though.

Just to add my 2c.

If you wanted to use the platform for "trading", then you're going to be disappointed. It's not really built for that.

For set-and-forget debit-order investing though, especially for ETFs - it's perfect.

In my experience it's been more about the share than the transaction. So buying liquid shares are usually ok but I won't place an automatic order overnight as share prices can change quite a bit. Buying illiquid stocks are a bad idea whether it's trading or holding.

This is true but those risks are there whatever your platform. More advanced ones you can set offer prices so you won't pay more than you expect, but selling an infrequently traded share can be a challenge.

This is what I use it for. I think that over 75% of my portfolio is ETFs and the shares I buy I tend to hold.

There's an EE employee/big boss on here, right? Whoever it is, thank you!

I posted a couple of weeks ago that I was as confused about the dividends payout. Some of my dividends had paid out instead of reinvesting and I couldn't figure out why because I'd originally selected the global option of dividend reinvestment. Now EE has put an extremely easy to find dividends payout option on each of my holdings on the Account Overview page so I can easily select what I want done with each investment .

Lets say you have 5 funds.... how do you see dividends only for one specific fund?

@zerocool2009 To set your preferences for each fund's dividend payout option:

Select Account overview > scroll down and select Holdings > then scroll down to the fund you want & click on it > there'll be a button marked Dividend Payout Preference, click it, and it'll bring up 3 options: 1 & 2 pay the money as cash, 3 automatically reinvests the money.

Silly question, but is it cheaper to automatically invest? If not, I think Imma leave mine as is (the manual way). I enjoy getting the payout notification. And sometimes I don't put dividends back in the same ETF / stonk.

Thanks for the reply. I saw this. My question was more related how can I see dividends paid out per fund. Its under the transaction screen... my request was, its only visible on that page?

Would love to see dividend transaction’s listed under a fund. I doubt thats possible

I think it'll come out in the transaction history. You may have to just parse the data yourself.

Thanks for the comment / reply.

what I am looking for / at :

If I click on fund A - > Show all history where dividends was paid out to into that fund.

Currently if you have 4 funds, and all at once pays out dividends, its all in the transaction list, but some history gets cut off / removed (because its so much info).

Currently I have option 1 clicked, to manual invest dividends.

You can easily enough download transaction history from EasyEquities in CSV format. You're right in that you see very little on the landing page but it's not as though the info is lost forever.
