Easy Equities good or bad?

Dividends are taxed separately from your normal tax or capital gains tax. There is an exception if the dividend originate from offshore.
Some questions since I moved all my children's tax free accounts from FNB to EE TFSA and bought S&P 500 ETFs

1. How do dividends work on ETFs? Same Iike UTs
2. If you hold UT or ETF in TFSA, are you liable for tax from foreign dividends?

1. On EE you have a setting, when paid out (as in credited), auto buy more or pay the cash put in the existing product.
2. All divs are taxed beforehand (including foreign divs) before payouts

To add to this. Some ETFs automatically reinvest the dividends back into the fund. That means that you wouldn't have the choice of whether to receive the dividend or reinvest.

How does the auto reinvest work? I’ve had it set to reinvest dividends for over a year but the money always gets paid into my cash account and I end up just buying the shares myself.

Any transaction within a TFSA are tax free.

Any dividend outside a TFSA the will be seen as income, even if it is reinvested in the same share.

Open the share in your EE account and click the button for dividend preference. Make sure the option selector is set correctly. If it is, contact EE support to fix it.

Actually not! Example, ash global 1200. They have always a taxed portion within the TFSA product. Its listed in the declaration page of the dividends
I can only assume that foreign companies do not withhold tax like South African companies. The full dividend are paid to share holders, thus the reason why it's declared.

Different kinds of income that an individual can be taxed on:

• income from employment such as salaries, wages, bonuses, overtime, taxable benefits (fringe benefits), allowances, and certain lump sum benefits;

• income from a business or trade;

• income or profits arising from an individual being a beneficiary of a trust;

• fees from companies or close corporations for services rendered;

investment income such as interest, foreign dividends and dividends from a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT);

• rental income;

• income from royalties;

• annuities;

• pensions; and

• certain capital gains

Individual taxes

Or our TFSAs aren't exempt from foreign dividends. The taxes are withheld, but still indicated as taxed on the records

Yup, the tax exemption only applies to South African companies. Where taxes are levied in other countries you still pay them.

Do you list foreign dividends, earned in a TFSA, under investment income when you submit your tax return? I think not.

I do not argue that taxes are withheld before foreign dividends are paid to shareholders.

What I am trying to say is that what happens in a TFSA stays in the TFSA. It does not affect your annual tax liability regarding dividends or CGT.

Nobody is disagreeing with you.

Another question, since EE helpdesk can't seem to understand basic English

We now have 4 EE accounts (myself,spouse, 2 Kids) . Is it possible to link all those accounts so that I can manage them under my primary login Instead of logging in each time. I understand if my wife's account would not be able to be linked.

With Allan Gray, my children's accounts are on my profile which makes it easy to manage.

Right now it's a just ridiculous logging in an out each time.

In my experience the call centre will give you a reference number and then no one will get back to you.

If they don't currently have the functionality to do that it, implantating it would be a development issue and not something the a helpdesk can rectify.

Is it possible to check the status of tickets? :unsure:

I've already sent an email to helpme@EE* without success.
