eBay

I recently started using eBay and I'm properly impressed.

Reason I like it:
- Way cheaper than local stores for many things
- The people ship everything through post wihout invoices (eg. as gifts) so you only pay R30 above and beyond your purchase price
- eBay offers all your money back if you don't receive your order provided you used PayPal to pay (which is the only way to pay for most things anyway).

Examples of what I mean by cheap:
I bought a IBM ServeRAID M1015 Raid Card for R800 (total!). It is pretty much the best RAID adapter available at the moment if you need JBOD and provides 8x SATA-6gb ports. Just try and find a deal like that in SA! (Cheapest I could find it for in SA was R2.5K with WantItAll).

Got a Samsung Google Nexus S for R3300 (total). Brand new and unlocked + an AWESOME cover (soft gel with a image on it) for R30 (would probably charge you R200 here in SA for it).

I haven't even bought that many things but already I have to stop myself from constantly ordering stuff, there are so many deals. Quite scary what people charge locally compared to eBay!

In one of your posts in January 2013 you said that you were importing a nexus 10 and would submit a follow up on your experiences.
If I missed you post then I'm sorry and would appreciate it if you would post or PM me the details. I have tried to PM you but am not very good at it.
Thanks.

Bought 10 different items from Ebay with varying prices last year and came with cheap shipping and never got charged customs or anything else and got shipped quit fast :D.

Do you read Japanese or does it come in English as well?

You can search Yahoo Japan auctions in English, using English terms and there is a translate feature. Use link I gave above.
Rakuten has an English site.
Kakaku can be searched using English terms. Then you can go to PriceJapan or Noppin to purchase the item. :)

You can bid on Yahoo Japan auctions using Noppin, entirely in English.

I recommend Google translate too.

Just so that everyone knows, you are allowed 2 "gifts" per year with a max value of R400 each. If the declared value works out to >R400, you pay duty on the whole lot.

Tell me about it. Some guy just added an extra zero on the declaration form by mistake. A R20,000 item it turned out to be with VAT of R3K. I sent it back for re-assessment.
