Hi all

I have sold my old Mecer 2.4KVA (batteries were totally finished) and got the

EcoFlow RIVER 2 Max 512Wh

from Takealot - the reviews look pretty good, just gonna use it for TV and laptop. Wondering if there are any owners on here who can offer some advice, I am seeing some suggestions like setting recharging speed to lower speeds, unplugging from mains when Eskom is down (even if plugged into surge protector) - the previous one just stayed plugged in and automatically powered TV when Eskom went down. Just looking for some best practice advice, thanks in advance!

You can keep it on and plugged in if you want. I use an automatic transfer switch with mine. That way I don't ever unplug it and I can turn it off when it is not in use. Make sure that you pick the right model: http://southafricanconsumer.co.za/2023/05/30/choosing-an-ecoflow-portable-power-station/

I have two River Max (original) for just over a year and one is permanently plugged in at my holiday home for router and TV. Very little battery degradation with all the load shedding. I often leave my freezer plugged into it.

The Cycle value is misleading and no indication of what you will get. My one has over 1000 Cycles and is around 95% now. It has often gone below 40% state of charge. I do set it to slow charge as to not overheat.

The other unit is 99% and has over 500 Cycles on it (now on solar), also going below 40%, many times to 10%. I used it as always on to not have any work interruptions. This is now my standby unit that I keep fully charged in its carry bag.

You will get more life out of it if you don't mind the ritual of plugging in, out, switching on, off, but for us we just wanted as brief interruptions as possible.
