Edgars Statement Fee Rip Off

My SO goes into Edgars Westgate to get a statement. Because of our crappy post office she doesn't receive statements that are posted to the post box.

She then asks the assistant to please email them to her. No problem, fill in the document required and just about to sign on the dotted line when she is told this will cost her R22.00 per month. Told the assistant what he can do with his statements and walked out.

Anyone had the same problem. What a rip off

By the way I refuse to buy anything from them due to their exorbitant prices and have asked her to close her account with them.

You can get them for free monthly via email?

The unfortunate assistant got all the flack now. Register for email statements because you mentioned that you weren't getting the post in any case.

Register on the site and download it

Yup I am, and pray do tell me oh wise one what's the difference between registering online or going into the store to register for email statements, She was told it will cost R22.00 per month to have the statement emailed to her. He did not tell her she could download it for FREE online.

The R22 is a new admin fee because they are broke.
When you buy an item and have to sign, watch the saleslady. She will tick a box on the screen which says you agree to the new terms. You cannot buy without agreeing. Closed my account last week after 40 years...

Are you aware that Edgars implemented a service fee price of R22 in May this year, and did your SO not confuse this with the statement fee? Read this link quick : http://edgarsservicefee.mobi

Edit: I see I was beaten to the post, was trying to find the Edgar's link before posting. We cancelled our account in May because of this.

A couple of years ago, Edgars sent me a letter threatening to cancel my credit because I didn't buy from them enough. The fact that I paid the Edgars Club fee every month apparently meant nothing.

I cancelled immediately and also gave up my Hollard disability insurance in a flash.

I get statements via email and have never paid any additional fees, although this appears on my statements:

Interestingly you cannot not agree to the terms as the screen will not got to the signature part unless you agree....

Check the other of the posts, this is a new admin fee they've implemented. You need to sign for it the next time you buy something

I saw that post. Are you saying there is a new fee, additional to the fee of R22.80, and when was it implemented?

No, they only enforce the changes after your next credit purchase but they need to inform you of it before the purchase is done.

The only reason they enforced a service fee charge cause back in the day they could charge what they felt like with regards to interest rate. Now the interest rate is capped at 21% unlike before Edcon Financial Services would charge what they felt like anything between 21% - 35% would fluctuate frequently every month.

Don't forget they now charge a R50-60 replacement on lost cards and a yearly fee on something.

Huh? The cheek!!!

Good job on closing the account, it is up to you to decide whether you want to use the account or not, they can't dictate to you what to do.

I have two accounts with major retailers, I don't use one of those that often and they never bother me, instead they try to entice me by sending me discount vouchers. It is a good thing I left Edgars years back, besides, they are struggling with their American owner's debt.
