I've just realised that since the beginning of the month my Bold, more often than not, has been on edge rather than EDGE.

Is this a network issue or a result of having Vodacom switch the account from contract to prepaid?

Never knew there was a difference? What I did notice, though, is that my Vodacom phone ALWAYS connects using GPRS, and my Cell C phone ALWAYS connects using EDGE (Capital E icon). Note, this is in the area where I stay, that's why I say ALWAYS. Yet, the GRPS is MUCH faster than the EDGE.

EDGE is supposed to indicate that BIS has been enabled. In the past when it said edge I wasnt able to access any services, which I currently am able to.

In theory edge means you have no access to BIS and you're using the network for internet access instead, but if you're not being charged for it and you're getting your e-mail then I don't know. Bwana are you certain you have no apps that make use of the network APN that might be running in the background?
Slootvreter your problem is that Vodacom have 3G in your area, to save on costs (because Vodacom don't make enough money) they switch off EDGE wherever they have 3G, MTN does not do this however.

LOL @ all the non BB peeps.

@Bwana I noticed that when I restart my phone its edge for a bit then a minute or so it turns to EDGE. I think that it could very well be due to you migrating but I would check it out with Vodacom.

Called Vodacom and they had me re-register my handset (under host routing table). It seems to have sorted the problem out.
