hi everyone

a friend of mine is trying to decide between vodacom and mtn as he wants to get a data card for home use.

he can get 3G and EDGE at his house (tested on my machine as i have both)

i am recommending MTN of course but some more ammo from you out there would be welcomed to help him make up his mind

thanks!

Well Mtn has pre-paid data bundles..... :-)

I heard the Vodacom services are in actual fact faster. I will be able to erify this soon as Im waiting for my new Vodacom telephone to be delivered.

hey yeah, i'd like to know the same.

i'm based in Stellenbosch, which last time apparently was only covered by edge, and not 3G, but the MTN sales lady said that they have plans to roll out there.
has this happened?
she also said that they are planning an EDGE/3G card in one. Is this true?

And where can i find out the bundle rates?

thanks!

Yes only EDGE at the moment, and not all towers have EDGE. So you may end up with only GPRS, unless you have a phone (like the 6680) that can "choose" a tower.
The all-in-one cards are coming yes. You can look on MTN's website, but AFAIK:
R10 for 10 MB, R100 for 100 MB, R220 for 350 MB or R499 for 1 GB.

I "rescanned" the towers I can pick up in Stellenbosch and it seems they have added another EDGE one, channel 94.
So in summary channels 87,94,98 and 108 are EDGE enabled. Holding my breath and drooling for 3G though...

scanning for towers

sorry this may sound like a dumb question but how do you "scann" for towers on the 6680

The Vodacom data cards are very good!!
Though I think MTN has faster data speeds!

thanks. at the moment i'm thinking of going the vodacom way, simply because they have actually marketed the product to us and i know what i'm going to get. and that it will work.
