Editing program needed

Hey guys

I'm wanting to edit some photos with some video into a 'Movie'.I looking for a free decent program do this.MS MMaker crashes all the time
I'v used virtual dub to cut and edit the Video but i cannot merge them into one long clip.Any ideas?
