Efergy - Engage Hub Kit

If u want to monitor your geyser electricty usage in real time as well as historically, then look at the sonoff pow smart switch...it's cheap, easy to setup and will give you the ability to turn it off and on from your mobile device. You can even setup scheduling from the app.

If you're a bit of a DIY type then IoTaWatt may be an option although you'll need to import it.
High accuracy, 14 channels, Wifi enabled, export of data to open source visualisation tools like Grafana.

I'm looking at the Engage Hub Kit

https://www.ellies.co.za/product/efergy-home-hub-kit/

Does the Transmitter accept an additional sensor?

I want to monitor total electricity usage - Which I guess will work, but I also want a separate sensor to monitor only the geyser as an example.

Can both be plugged in and monitored online?

Thanks
You need additional transmitters and clamps to monitor additional loads with Efergy.

I make use of some sonoff switches, but I feel that the connectors to their switches is very tiny, especially for the load of a geyser

I have just bought the Efergy Engage kite. I am trying to register it on the Efergy Cloud service. I can do it on my home fiber network, but not through a tplink 3g router on Vodacom. Anyone else have this problem?

Been using Efergy for years ... but over last 18 months (also on FTTH) I have had issues. It connects randomly. I have approached Efergy support (not that great) and they claim that connection issues is related to my ISP. My ISP claims that they don't block traffic. Let us know if you had any success.

Great tool to monitor energy, but quite useless over the last 18 months. Only actual time it worked flawlessly was in Feb this year when the undersea cables went down ... and they routed traffic around to Europe on another link - connection and datalogging to/from Efergy (engage.efery.com) worked flawelessly for those 2 weeks. That points me to the suspicion that my ISP (Cool Ideas) might have something to do with the issues.

Ciao.

Ciao.

I used Efergy years ago and they needed to change something on my account to get it working.

Decided last year to set it up again as I installed a gas geyser and wanted to track usage again. Couldn’t get it to stay connected to the app or website and emails to them went went answered.

Seems the receiver doesn’t connect to the contraption around the electric cable consistently.

Is there another solution available?

I'm interested in doing this myself

Must say its working better than expected... even went overboard and got myself a little Home Assistant server running as well. (HA can run on a Pi or even a Virtual box if you have access to an Always on PC). Nice thing about HA is that I dont need to worry about Sonoff going under and not having access to their service:

Installation is about a day old so waiting for some history to see best way to display kWh and cost..

Thanks. They only have on backorder. And, as you say, pricey.
If you are in jhb, try investsolar. They keep them. Over the past few days there seems to be some connection issues though, just goes dead for a few hours at a time. Before that it worked great. I have 5 sensors on the hub

Only problem is limited to 16A, so it won't work for whole home measurement
Please be careful about these as there’s been numerous discussions about the fact that they cannot handle the full rated power for very long with some burning. They also don’t have protection circuitry built in.

I have more than 20 sonoffs but I don’t use them for high power usage. If I need to switch high power, I use the sonoff to switch an external relay or contactor but you lose the pow capabilities.

The cables can also easily be pulled out so should ideally be installed in some sort of enclosure if it’s going to be at reach of children or pets.

I think that is the problem with most of these "consumer products", most people get to dabble in things that they dont respect or truly understand.

I for one install all my Sonoff's into junction boxes, even if they inside the roof. For example my 2 POW's that I use to monitor my high current points (Gaming PC and Inverter) looks like :

My basic's and RF's went into smaller R30.00 boxes I bought from electrical supplies with sleeves and water seals (Sold seperate). They look like:

Just big enough, with about 5 to 10mm gap on the sides of the Basic. So I know they splash proof and you wont pull the cable from them.

As for overall house + geyer current monitor I would rather order something like tease NCD's products that I know would be fine in the junction box in the garage. Would be weary installing an Efergy oustide the house or in the roof for that matter.
