EFF cop fired

A police officer who lied to get time off and take part in an Economic Freedom Fighters' demonstration has been dismissed for misconduct, Gauteng police said on Thursday.

Moses Sake booked off work in May, claiming to take his sick child to the doctor, but was instead seen taking part in protests outside the Alexandra Magistrate's Court, Brigadier Neville Malila said.

At the time of the protests, Malila told Sapa that around 300 people had gathered and were burning tyres outside the court. They were protesting at the court appearance of people arrested for public violence during the elections.

On Thursday, Malila said Mako was one of the protesters who tried to negotiate with the police during the protest.

"He was linked to this incident through video footage which we took of the protests. Other police officers who were there also identified him," said Malila.

He explained that besides lying about his reason for being off work, Mako was not supposed to have taken part in any political action.

"We cannot be actively involved in politics or be seen to be members of a particular party," said Malila.

Mako appeared before a disciplinary hearing before he was dismissed last week.

Idiot to think (if he even did think) that he could get away with that sort of nonsense on ANC turf!

Had he been an ANC comrade indulging in a spot of ANC thuggery there would have been no problem and the worst that might have happened would have been a suspension on full pay for 8-10 years followed by a lucrative diplomatic posting.

EFF CONDEMNS COP'S DISMISSAL

The Economic Freedom Fighters in Gauteng on Friday condemned the SA Police Service for dismissing a police officer who lied to get time off to participate in an EFF protest.

According to Gauteng police Moses Sako booked off work in May, claiming to take his sick child to the doctor, but was instead seen taking part in protests outside the Alexandra Magistrate's Court.

EFF provincial convenor Mgcini Tshwaku said in a statement the party wanted to meet the policeman to learn the facts surrounding his dismissal.

"After discovering all the facts, we shall then engage our legal team and take this matter up and if it means taking the matter to court, then we shall do so.

"We condemn the SA Police Service decision to dismiss the officer based of suspicion that he is an EFF member, we view this as nothing but a way of planting fear to anyone who associates him/herself with the EFF especially those employed by the state."

I think he may win this case at CCMA. If he can produce a sick note for the child and prove that his participation in the strike was incidental then there's no basis to fire him.
