Hi All

What do you buy and why?
I buy Free Range

Do we feel the extra cost is worth it?
I don't consume more than 3 eggs per week, so the cost is not too much of a consideration. For me, it does taste better. ?Knowing? that the chickens have a better quality of life is a massive plus!

Thanks

Some time ago on BBC Food, Rick Stein did a free range vs battery egg blind taste run with a bunch of chefs. Not one chef could tell which is which and the majority preferred the battery eggs.

I buy free range or Omega feed eggs - I hate battery eggs as they have no colour or taste. I find that battery eggs dont fill you up and we consume 3 time more of them than free range.

for some reason I cant tell the difference even with what some call organic eggs.

Not all battery eggs are bad as it all depends on the feed (hence my reference to Omega feed). Also some battery farms put their hens under less stress (bigger cages, better enviroment, etc) to produce superior eggs.

Uhm yeah cause organic is a crock, most of the time the mass produced food is better tasting, bigger and better for the environment. Also rather look up the definition of free range, they generally aren't much better off then battery chickens either.

I doubt one can tell the difference. The only real upside to free range is that the chickens (maybe) suffer a tiny bit less. Oh and its good if you happen to need a marketing case study.

You get "Free range" that basically means the chickens are left to run arround inside a big barn with concrete floors and the lights on all the time.
The can still be fed fish meal and qualify as free range.

Personally I avoid battery eggs in general, but I find that some free range eggs just look and taste better than others. Whether these are the fish meal ones or not I do not know.

Definitely battery. When eggs are connected in battery there is significant boost in voltage.
Wait...I'm confused.

"Free range" is a fairly broad term. Is there even any legislation in SA as to what constitutes "free range"?

The free range eggs I am familiar with have bright orange yolks, comparison to the non-free range eggs I have seen.

We usually just get the cheapest, eggs are eggs dude-besides its the bacon that gives it flavour :D

Lol, it is because the eggs are fear-infused.

I buy whichever is the cheapest. They all taste the same.

+1.

So the suffering of these creatures does not affect your decision making?

Does the R2 that I have to spend more on eggs not bother you as now a dog at the SPCA dies every month because I can not sponsor the kennel anymore.

Have you no heart!?
