I've recieved my first bill from Telkom informing me I owe the sum of R1243. I expected it to be high as it includes installation and DoBroadband 3 subscription. What I wonder though is there's an R839.57 Rental fee detailed as Telephony?

Another thing is in a act of pure frustration (after being on hold with ADSL support for over 45 minutes and tossed around from one switchboard to another) I phoned the accounts department and asked them to cancel my DoBroadband3 subscription which they did, I asked them if I would be charged for the service since I hadn't used to which they said no but they told me the subscription would be active till the end of the month ... which it turns out it wasn't, another call to Telkom ever so jacked support center informed me that when they cancel an account, its cancelled straight away so a word of warning to anyone cancelling, do it around the end of the month, not the beginning. Another phonecall to the accounts department later and they told me I would have to wait until I got my bill to see whether or not I had been charged for the ISP subscription, which I now have, now how do I go about getting credit back for this service or will I have to take one on the chin?

For what it's worth, the speed of the 4mbps ADSL has been the only thing that has me sold that it's a better option than iBurst and even that has a downside as I go through bandwidth at 4 times the speed.

Just to put it into perspective, it cost me R1700 for the USB modem, I had it connected in less than 2 days, it would've been quicker if the rep at HiFi corp hadn't forgotten to fax my details through. The Telkom installation took over 2 months and has cost me the bill above as well as R800 for the router.

why u bother phoning is beyond me

go into your nearest telkom shop

how many companies will stop a service into the month

meaning if cancel on 2nd no many companies will do it, only the following month

But if the service is not available after cancellation then you should not have to pay for it.

I'm going to make a trip into the shop to resolve the issue on Monday. Talking on the phone is alot easier than trying to make time off work to get to the shops.

So you canceled because of the seemingly wrong bill they sent you Fudzy? Ain't that a bit overkill? You do know that your first bill will be high as well because they charge you double the first time? (Once for the current month, and then again for the next month etc etc)

No, if you read my post more carefuly you'd note it was due to the terrible lack of support desk operators.

EDIT: On that note though, it seems if you submit for ALOT of ADSL verfication requests on the website, a rep phones you back two days later to assist.

You think R1200 is bad? Hellkom sent me a R4200 bill because their system created 10 duplicate accounts. It's been 2 months since it happened and they still haven't resolved it.

WOW...............I'd be pissed.Dude get it sorted out

I have had a number of disputes with the Telkom accounts department and always eventually got the credit I felt was due to me.
