Elden Ring

The one you're referring to is a ridiculously tough. I think I got him down to half way over a few attempts, but I won't go back there for a while! Found parrying to be the most effective strategy, but when you get it wrong he punishes you HARD.

For me he was much tougher that the first two "main" bosses...finally managed to down him but it took many, many deaths :D

Remember this when you face him again: roll into his attacks

Any feedback on the radeon driver?
Didn't notice any improvements, still stutters alot.

Specs:
Ryzen 3700x, Radeon 5700XT, 32GB ram.
running on a SSD, will make some space and move it over to NVME drive
tonight.

I played it a little more yesterday. Have been trying out a few different characters.

Mage is easiest as you can just kill everything quickly in the open world whilst on horseback. Got to lvl31 with the mage in about 6 hours just exploring near the starting area. I put all points into INT.

Dagger bleed is decent but there are enemies that are immune/resistant to bleed so it doesn't work sometimes. Got the Reduvia bleed dagger at the start which is OP as long as the mob can bleed. Powerstanced it with the Great Knife which is the starting dagger for the Bandit. Another issue here is the range and getting swarmed with enemies. Also flying things like bats are tough to hit. A lot slower gameplay than the mage.

Also tried out a STR focused build but for an hour or so. Didn't feel very strong early on compared to the above two builds.

Overall playing a mage feels easiest as you don't have to avoid any fights so you level a lot faster. Can just mow down anything that moves. Whereas playing melee, with almost every area/pack you have to be careful and play a bit slowly to avoid death. Also melee combat while on the horse feels clunky but shooting spells whilst on the horse feels decent.

There’s a new patch out this morning which supposedly fixed stuttering for some people

cool, just saw now a 13MB update on steam.
I saw some replies on reddit that disconnecting a second monitor also helps with stuttering.

will check tonight.

Sounds about right. Mage/Pyromancer builds in most From games are the easiest starting class.

update, new patch on Steam helped a lot with stuttering, did not remove all of it for me.
Unplugging second monitor also feels like there is some
improvement.

I started another playthrough since a mage long term is sort of boring as you don't get to use all the cool stuff you find.

So I'm trying to get a GG weapon and shield combo going early on. Using Uchigatana and a good shield (farmed the Brass shield at the start which is the best medium shield). Uchigatana has better range than daggers and also bleeds. Now I've made my way all the way to the east to get the Poison Moth Flight ash of war which will also add poison damage to the Uchigatana. So I'll be able to bleed and poison things with just my basic attacks whilst using heavy armour and a shield. Just having trouble beating the mini-boss to get the ash of war (Knight Cavalry which has a flail) which is in a higher level area all the way to the east. Want to only start playing through properly and exploring thoroughly once I get the poison.

Think I might need to cheese him down with a bow and maybe poison arrows on horseback since I'm still a very low level.

Currently running the Uchigatana with Bloody slash. I have two shields, Turtle Shield for its Barricade Skill,
and other random shield for which I bought the "No Skill" ash of war which allows the Bloody slash to work one handed.

Turtle shield has saved my ass a lot, but challenging AF.
will check out this poison ash of war now.

currently Level 51

The poison ash of war drops from the one in Caelid. Seems like he is the toughest one of the lot.

ok that looks hard, bloody slash just dropped from a knight which also used the bloody slash attack so he could one/two shot me.

Just managed to kill him. Cheesed him with poison arrows whilst standing on a high tree branch. Ran out of arrows near the end when he had 20% HP left. Zerged down the remaining bit whilst on the horse. lvl15 now.

well done, I died a lot. will try another day.
I went back and killed the other two easier knight cavalries.

I can say that the Poison ash of war is fairly decent against tougher bosses that can be poisoned and that you can keep your distance from. Managed to beat the Tree Sentinel near the start with the poison Uchigatana on the first try. Just took two applications of poison so I only had to get close to him twice and swing a few times, then run around for a couple minutes whilst the poison killed him.
