Elden Ring

I have a issue where I hate missing items or quests, so I tend to be cautious on fighting bosses and progressing the world. For me, to have the world progress just because I passed an invisible line on the map is bullshit.
This is typical fromsoft souls/souls like so you will be doing that unknowingly unless you've completely studied all guides on all quests - why I stopped worrying about it.

I agree with this, worrying about something you may have missed and following guides kinda takes the fun out of exploring for me.

Started playing 2 weeks ago and basically explore one zone until I'm bored of it, then look online which bosses I've missed in the zone and go kill them, only then do I move into the next zone, rinse repeat.

Already bungled a few quests which is a bummer, but whatever, I'm still enjoying the exploration and not knowing what is around every other corner.

my first playthrough is always blind (mostly, sometimes i just want to see something). subsequent playthrough i bring out guides. i dont mind. iv never been super into stories either way. its more about missing out on a complete dungeon

No its not. Its normal for events to change after fighting a boss. Its never typical to have it change from exploring .

Of course, but I guess subsequent play-through(s) with selected quests you want to complete? I found this thing on the ground somewhere and I thought I heard " release me from the hurt " where it actually said something more like " don't hurt me " I killed it thinking I was doing the lords work only to realize I just killed it and its quest line. Nonetheless, I did go to the ancient dragon's pit and left no one alive ~ no survivors and the tribe has spoken.

lol yeah I hear you, I've accidentally killed an merchant NPC early game due to charging in with running attack coz back then I was super afraid of dying all the time.

I played at launch and got to the lift that takes you to the plateau. Real life then intervened and I haven’t touched the game since.

Managed to lose my save game in one of my drive upgrades in the meantime so I’m starting from scratch again.

I will use a guide to get a mage up and running quickly ‘cos I don’t think I have the patience for how long I took to get to where I did the last time (I died a lot )

For experiencing the game as it was I tended to be experienced.

With a mage it is easy to bruteforce the beginning of the game. Take the trapped chest from the river next to the starting area, run out cave, get meteoric staff and rock sling just outside cave.

Travel to church of Marika take the telporter behind the church, run down to the dragon on the bridge, kite him to the tree by the site of grace, hide behind tree to avoid fire, wait for him to fly as he does jump past him and he will get stuck on the tree, fall and die. 60k runes.

Over the same bridge to the left is a spirit spring jump down, rest at grace till night, knight cavalry will be there kite him to end of the bridge with the gap, he will keep running in the spot and when he jumps he dies. 45k runes.

You now have 100k runes, everything you need for a op start and you haven't had to fight a thing yet. You can just go straight through stormveil with this setup.

I tried getting back into it last night, couldn't even remember what the spirit ashes icon was for.
Since I saw asmongold using a shield instead of rolling simulator I thought why not...and died...a lot.

BTW has anyone tried the seamless co-op?
It might be fun suffering together
