My Fantasy *ANC loses MANY votes to new party... splitting their power base in half. Zuma is seen for the idiot he is, and there is a balance of power, and South Africa actually improves*.... Hey I can dream cant I? we all know whos going to win with a majority vote

I will vote for the DA. Yes, I'm white and middle class, but the DA actually stands for something. They are outspoken, and Hellen Zille is a great person. I know that the DA will make lots of ground in the election, but I don't think they'll take any major new roles yet.

I support the fact that the new Shikota party has come about, as it's hurting the ANC in the best possible place, but I don't know them, as in the party. They have no track record of anything, and the leaders while charasmatic, have failed to act in the past. My best friend also said yesterday that for all he knows, they'll ally with the ANC again after the elections.

One thing a lot of innocent ANC voters will never think of is the fact that the Communist Party is getting a free ride into power by being "aligned" with the ANC. To me that is despicable, as why should a vote for one party end up being for 3 forces? (ANC+CP+Cosatu) I mean in this day and age, who still thinks Communism has a chance?

The new Shikota party could win a majority in three provinces - the Eastern Cape, Free State and North West - and could get between 10% and 20% of the national vote. Zuma is very popular in KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Gauteng. The ANC will most probably lose ground in the Northern Cape, Limpopo and Western Cape. The 69.69% majority that the ANC won in the 2004 election, could easily come down to between 50-60% in 2009. A lot depends on how many new registrations take place and which way these voters cast their ballots. The DA got 12.37% of the vote in 2004, the IFP 6.97 %, the UDM 2.28 % and ID 1.73 %. It will be important to see if any of these established opposition parties can make further gains next year. The ANC under Zuma is so intent on shooting itself in the foot recently. They will win these elections but they will have to seriously clean up their act if they don't want to lose even more voters to the opposition by the 2014 election.

The congress of the people as ill named as it is could be the first party which could form a viable opposition across racial, geographical and tribal lines. The ANC will pretty much dominate the hinterland but the congress unlise the DA, UDM, FF+, IFP and ACDP can actually challenge the ANC across the country albeit in a small way. The DA remains a niche party it will never ever garner more than 10% of the vote unless it creates a grassroot effort to gain the non-caucasian vote.

Firstly let me say that I will vote DA.
They have an open society and has a proven track record in muncipailities where they are in control.
They do not enrich themselves and actually care about the people of our beautifull country.
The DA does not make promises at election times which they cannot keep to. Their policies are well researched and sustainable.

ANC will never get my vote as they are a bunch of losers with emprty promises.
COPE is nothing but the old ANC which ran this country for the last few years and has clearly proven that they cannot deliver anything but corruption, crime, and social decay.

VIVA DA VIVA!!!!

I just had to reply on this. I work for the DA. If there is one thing that I can guarentee you at this stage of the election run up, it is that the DA has become a multi racial party. We have shaken off the stigma and believes of some people that we are only a white party. Even after COPE we have been the only party that has been able to win the ANC in more by-elections in the last three months than any other party.
The DA is a party for every south african that believes in good open and honoust governance.
We had more non-white members sign up in this party than ever before. Makes you wonder if COPE even has a chance

Which party's are against the death penalty?

The bulk of the political parties I personally think are against the death penalty at this stage. Reason for this is that the constitution gives criminals to much rights.
They have to because the ruling party has to also deal with criminals in their mids

I don't know any european country that kept the Death Penalty.
Except few western countries, developped countries don't apply Death Penalty

I just wish nobody gets a majority. And so ALL South Africans concerns are heard. But the same dream ended with me waking up next to Anne Hathaway

Unfortunately there are to many sheep in SA so I expect more of the same :(

What predictions do you guys have for the election? Like percentage estimate wise.

ANC: 55%
DA: 18%
COPE: 10%
ID: 4%
IFP: 5%
Rest: 8%

My estimates will change if South Africans abroad will be able to vote for this election.

I would be happy with those figures. I hope you are close. I should bookmark this thread and come back to it after the elections.

I'm likely voting DA again.. only because there isn't much of a choice? as soon as one becomes available and the anc doesn't have an overwhelming majority i will change as i don't agree with everything they do (DA) but given the choice it seems the lesser evil.

"No matter who you vote for the government gets in."

I find it hard to vote for anyone. My own views lie more with the anarcho-capitalism of Murray Rothbard and the Austrian School of Economics (Ludwig von Mises).

In our populist demagogue-racy, those who promise to 'redistribute' the greatest wealth to the most people will get the most votes. This is not a formula for fostering a culture that promotes long-term growth or stability. It is also immoral.

I don't think COPE will amount to much - they seem to me to be mostly disaffected ANCers who lost out at Polokwane now foraging for ways back into the trough.

ANC : 62%
DA : 18%
COPE : 5%
Hoi polloi : the rest

i.e. All of them.

ACDP wants the death penalty. As does the Christian Democratic Party. And the FF...

I think the DA wants it too, but I doubt they're as enthusiastic as the others. I'll shout at them about it after they make a decent showing at the polls.
