Right can anyone suggest one that does a decent close shaving job on a beard with a close resemblance to iron filings?

Rotary blades are a no-no. Foil is the way to go.

I have this one:

Panasonic ES8249K Arc IV Nano Vortex Wet/Dry Rechargeable Shaving System

Dischem also sells the Braun series that is very good.

Will that cut really tough bristles?

+1

Also visit some electric shaver forums. Using an electric shaver is something of an art. I benefited from many of the tips and tricks discussed in those forums.

Thanks. Will go price some braun series 7s...

I see about 250dorrah on eBay...

I see takealot has the 790cc-1 for 2250...

Is it worth getting this or should I pay a little more for a cc-4 from eBay?

Though not as fast as your mom ;)

Bonus, can pay for half of this with ebucks.. I think we have a winner

Good choice. You won't regret this purchase.

tip: Although you don't need shaving cream with these shavers, I love using the cream from The Body Shop.

Now where the heck do I buy the cleaning cartridges for this thing? Every seems to be out of stock, some sort of supply problem...

Braun, but a bit expensive here, over R 2000 at Dis-Chem. I got a series 7 last year as they were on a promotion at a GrossMart in Berlin. Paid equivalent of R700 for it. Ok, but doesn't do as good a job as one of these 4 blade goodies and I have a soft beard and only need to shave every 2 days
