Electrical Shaver

I use a 3-head Philishave (cost around R1.5k 4 years ago) every weekday - and my Mach3 with foam on Saturdays. The electric isn't as close, but it works well - and recharges quickly enough. I've had the electric one about 4 years and the blades are still as good as new. The batteries, however had to be replaced a couple of months ago. The standard ones are NiCAD - and it's a bit of a fiddle to replace them because they are "built-in", but I managed to replace them with higher current NiMH batteries - work MUCH better.

All in all, it gives a reasonably close shave.

Oh, and for the longer hair (if you don't shave daily), there is a beard trimmer - which also works on my 'tache!

I just recently upgraded from the Braun Synchro to the Braun Pulsonic (7 series) due to SAA losing my bags.
I'm really happy particularly with the Pulsonic.

In hugh humidity I use the "Face Saver" pre-shave powder stick and this makes it even better.

I use a Phillips Cool Skin shaver, with shaving gel for lubrication. Works like a charm, though a little too close a shave if I'm not careful. Better than any razor I've used.

Try using "Prep", I use it with shaving cream and it makes a big difference.

I went to a dermatologist today because I have a bad shavers rash... She told me that it is ingrown hairs that are the problem and normal shavers just worsen it. She gave me a couple of options, with the best being laser therapy to remove the hair but that would be crazy expensive. The second option I want to try is an electrical shaver, according to the doctor it works.
Who uses one? And what is your opinion?

Grow a beard. Not a great Father Christmassy, Paul Kruger thing, but an elegant and short one – designer stubble on steroids. Give yourself those extra ‘shaving minutes’ in bed. Save on blades, creams and metro sexual stuff. Buy a barber-type electric clipper set from your nearest discount store (about R60.00). Use the shortest ‘spacer’ in the clipper set. Trim your beard once a month. Babes love them [beards, not clippers].

Yeah, i just trim my beard with a clipper once a week.

I think I am going to use one of those old blades... the ones they shave you with in a good old fashioned barber...

They are not hard to shave with. The problem is you need all the goodies that go with them to keep them sharp unless you send them in. I have two straigh razors (cut throaths) and they are nice to shave with once you get the hang of it although it takes a bit longer.

lol @ Mila.

I always use an electric shaver, much faster and less effort! But when the battery fail halfway, its a struggle..

Mach 3 razor on a 1 1/2 week blade swap schedule, shave with the grain, sometimes have 2 shave 2x per day, but nothing makes you feel better than a good shave, and getting stung to sH** by aftershave afterwards. normally done in less than a min.

My grandfather Had to go Electric because with Parkinsons blades are a bit of a problem.

Depends me thinks on how often you shave.. if often then the electric works as well. If you like me who grows stubble a bit before shaving then the electric can be your worse nightmare. Bought one and still haven't "gotten use to it" as such.. always getting razor burn from it if i only use it with longish stubble. i.e.

stubbly to beard = use blade (shave about every 3 or longer days)
clean shaven to shadow/sort stubble = use electric or blade (shave every/2nd day)

I guess its my own fault for not sticking to a regular schedule.

Been using Mach 3 from the start. Was tempted to buy a gud wet/dry shaver but never really got around to it. Mach 3 blades are qiute pricey these days at R150 a 8 pack.
