I went to a dermatologist today because I have a bad shavers rash... She told me that it is ingrown hairs that are the problem and normal shavers just worsen it. She gave me a couple of options, with the best being laser therapy to remove the hair but that would be crazy expensive. The second option I want to try is an electrical shaver, according to the doctor it works.
Who uses one? And what is your opinion?

i use an electric shaver and it works fine but every now and again i also get an ingrown hair.

blades make me scared.

If you have a thick beard, the electric shaver is not the route to go. You wont get all the hair no matter how many times you try. Also, your skin needs t adapt so the first few times you might get a rash and in-growns.

If you are using a 5 blade gillete fusion then rather try the mach 3.

The 5 blades were way to close for me and gave me a bad rash. The three blades are easier on the skin.

I used to get irritated skin from shaving until I got my electric razor. I got a Phillips one. Works very well and the titanium blades are good for about 2 years.

replace your shaving cream, a dermatologist in PTA told me to shave with normal aqau cream and not shaving cream to prevent a rash, it really works. It is also cheaper then aqua cream, btw do you shave with or against the hair flow?

Shave with... but it is difficult in all the areas... Will try shaving with aqua cream to see if it works, thanks for the tip.

I have one of those phillishave things from phillips, got it from clicks for about R200. Was the cheapest they had, but works well. I doubt paying much more will make a difference, the only thing the more expensive ones have is rechargeable batteries.

I dropped R2k on one of these :(

I've wasted money on things I thought were a good idea at the time but never on a scale like this. I've been using cheaper Phillishave electric razers since my teens, I often suffered from ingrown hairs and I found it never worked as well as a normal razor, especially in the more humid months in Durban. I was getting married so I figured I'd spoil myself on something a little more expensive.

Worst decision ever, unless its used daily it struggles on longer hair and on top of that it clogs up very quickly with longer hair. The only plus point is that is recharges very quickly.

I tried one. Didn't like it. Damn thing clogs up and gave in after a few months :erm:
