My latest bill is DOUBLE my normal bill. I have power saving light bulbs left, right and centre and my geyser is off half the day and this keeps my bill around R200 a month. Last month R190. Now I get a bill over R400 this month!! Ok, I heard Eskom would be charging more yea but Double??? Who else is getting this same nonsense and what's the story? Not happy.

Have you got both bills? What is the amount of kWh you consume in both?

*****e! I see here I am being billed for 1050kWh (Period 23/06/2009 to 24/08/2009 - 63 Days) as it says on the back of the bill. 63 days?! But I already received a bill end of July and paid it 1 August R190. I have been billed twice for July -> August now it seems. How did Eskom get that right or is it some new billing system? Anyone else seen this?

I think there is a difference between what they estimated you used vs. what you have actually used (ie. meter reader came out). This is why I'd prefer to have a a prepaid meter.

we got 4 bills of R400-600 ... because we dumped all the power guzzlers and started saving energy ...... then we got one for R4000 ..... "Oh sorry, eish but we were undercharging you"

prepaid electricity meters ftw. they have their downside that you have to remember to buy electricity but no crazy billing issues and you can stock up on electricity before a large price hikes.

there is another increase set application for end of sept as far as i can remember going at around 30%....

I use pre-paid and still buying between R150 - R200 per month still no change on my usage.

I have prepaid electricity. We used to pay 53 cents per kilowatt hour. We now pay 87.7 cents per kilowatt hour. My electricity bill was almost double during winter even though i have not used a heater.

I am seriously considering going the solar route. With the current Escom shortfall of 9,7 billion rands, electricity cost will have to increase again.
Should prices double, i can recoup my capital outlay by installing solar, within 3 years.
At the current electricity price it will take 7 years to recoup the cost.

After our bill this month!!!! We will never doubt if gas is cheaper than eskom.

aaa south africa the land of the free whom rides on the back of the few...

Our elec billed doubled as well but admittedly the consumption was 50% higher because of the heaters and then coupled with the increase of 30 odd % that came in July. It's quite ridiculous and now they want another 40% increase next year :/

When they chucked out the skilled engineers and replaced with "unskilled" , then realised they need the skilled guys back again - someone has to pay that expense.

I spoke to a black guy that works at Eishkom, an Engineer, he tells me how happy the guys are working there.
I spoke to another guy, a white engineer, who tells me how unhappy they are, the reason - "skills transfer".

The insane thing is, they are still making loses, in summary, expect that bill do double again.
