I live with a family member in a 2 bed, 2 bath unit.
There is a single geyser, a fridge, a washing machine and dishwasher.
Electronics include a TV, Android TV box, my media server and gaming PC (These two use R250 worth of electricity in a month because I only play Dota).
Stove is gas, we use gas heaters during winter. And oven usage is minimal at best (maybe once a week).

Our electricity bill is R1800pm (We get our electricity through Impact Meters) and we use approx. 650KWh in a month.
This seems a little high to me, but I would like to hear what others are paying for similar situation.
And I would appreciate any recommendations when it comes to reducing this amount.

Seems roughly average - 20kw/ day. Slightly higher than some, less than others.

Geyser probably drawing a third of that a day.
First thing to reduce would be that - solar or heat pump etc. Or solarwise to schedule turn off til you need it.

Fridge - if you keep opening to look and closing, will use a lot more power. Only open when you need to.

You probably have other gadgets sucking power that are always on too.

20kw / day

Say 6kw for geyser, that leaves you roughly 580w an hour base load. Go look to see whats causing that.

Gaming PC can easily use 300-500W an hour even if "only DoTA". So thats quite possibly your culprit for some of that. Turn off when not in use.

Yeah this is pretty avg and on par with our stats too

note winter is typically higher with more power needed to help geyser temp

all lights LED etc barring getting more energy eff appliances not much more you can really do.

nah my gaming pc draws less than 100w when not spinning up a game. it uses so little I dont even bother turning it off on solar...

Simular usage and my power on Eskom Post pay

R800-R1100 depending on season.

I'd say you are a little above average considering the gas hob but not by much. The problem is the cost that skyrocketed.

Depends on what else is going on, a gas hob but electric oven? Electric ovens chomp a lot

650kWh is normal for a 2 person household - I use more some months.

Cost's have skyrocketed and you're paying more per kWh than ever before, hence your shock. (that and you're probably paying an extra 15% premium to the vending company for the privilege of having them vend you power).

You either need to downsize / suck it up / go solar.

Is there really a point nothing here seems out of place at all.

Its different if he was pulling 2000 units a month but this is avg.
Not really I've got a 5 bedroom house, pool, 3 people living in it, xboxes, PCs and before solar I was only on about 650.

That seems more than 15% no?

We're 2 people in the house, spending about R1750-R2k a month on electricity.

Only non electric thing is our gas hob. We have 4 fridge/freezers in the house, network cabinet with a couple of switches, intel nuc's, NVR, etc.

Pool pump and pump on jojo tanks for irrigation

Just for comparison

Edit: Roughly about 500-600kWh monthly

Well mine is out of place and I am busy installing WiFi switches and measurement devices throughout..,

- One can often have a little problem that multiplied by 365 means a lot
- With the Wifi switches you can intelligently switch off things automatically

Always good to know what's consuming what

cannot compare ZAR spend.

need to compare units. As some ppl are charged more.

Washing machine and dishwasher are big users as well. How often do you run them, and what temperatures?

Mine is R700pm. Fridge, geyser, small dishwasher and gaming PC and laptop which is on for 8hrs+ a day. Just me in the apartment. I use the oven 2 or 3 times a week. Washing machine is used once every 2 weeks.
