Electricity usage seems high

Washing machine and dishwasher are big users as well. How often do you run them, and what temperatures?
Washing machine only if you run it with hot water barely uses 200-400w otherwise. We NEVER use the heat water function on top loader. Prefer clothes to last longer.

But yes dishwasher is a big one, in our case every 1.5 days. we work from home

I found that my dishwasher uses less electricity than hand washing

prepaid is a robbery...ask those staying in Balwin properties how much they are paying...one replied to me we have a lifestyle and we have to pay for it. 1800 is definitely a rip off for 650kWh

Energy Charge ( 0 - 600 kWh) 600 kWh @ R1.8356 /kWh : 600*1.8356=1101
prepaid isnt robbery - bad middlemen are the "robbers"

I'm also with Impact Meters, between R1k - R1.2k per month.
Living with the girlfriend, and we use about 400Kwh in a month.
1 x Gaming PC
Working from home as well.

Geyser only runs for 2 hours or so a day, we cook with electricity every day (oven / stove / airfryer)
If I leave the geyser on, then we go over 20Kwh per day easily.

180w on its a 1080 not latest but just to give you an idea.
That's not bad. I measured mine some time ago. Idle it uses very little, but as soon as I start gaming it shot to over 400w (that's the whole rig, monitor etc.)

What GFX card? As with my 3070ti I hit 450

Yeah, a couple of hours of gaming everyday definitely contribute to your electricity bill. :p
Yup on my 3070ti it definitely does + my son is running a 2060 super so it can add on :-)

Another reason why I love console gaming esp when load shedding cause I have to watch my batteries.

From my constant checking, I get an average:
Series S + 40" 1080p TV = 110W
Series X +58" 4K TV = 280W
PS5 + 58" 4K TV = 300W
PS3 + 40" TV 720p = 190W

Gaming PC + 2 x 1080P Screens = 420W (Dont know what screens draw on their own)

Seems high to me. We spend R800 a month (~300 units?), prepaid in Cape Town. We are two people, two gaming PCs, both working from home, used nearly daily. Three heated fish tanks, gas stove, electric oven used often. We have a gas geyser, is the main difference, but it shouldn't make the R1000 difference.

Think the R value is daylight robberies as other has put it. (Pre paid middle man)

His kWh usage is about the same as what I have with 2 people.

the geyser alone makes that much difference

Can prepaid meters go faulty and misread either under or over?

3 people and we never went over R1500 then the meter broke and they replaced it and our useage jumped to R2200 the next month and there’s no reasonable explanation in terms of our usage. I checked to make sure it’s not some new provider shafting us on the rates, the cost per kWh is the same as before, as per the published rate the COCT gives.

I live with a family member in a 2 bed, 2 bath unit.
There is a single geyser, a fridge, a washing machine and dishwasher.
Electronics include a TV, Android TV box, my media server and gaming PC (These two use R250 worth of electricity in a month because I only play Dota).
Stove is gas, we use gas heaters during winter. And oven usage is minimal at best (maybe once a week).

Our electricity bill is R1800pm (We get our electricity through Impact Meters) and we use approx. 650KWh in a month.
This seems a little high to me, but I would like to hear what others are paying for similar situation.
And I would appreciate any recommendations when it comes to reducing this amount.
Our bill is R2k +- and we are a family of 4. Dishwasher, washing machine, geyser, double fridge, dryer

Check that your geyser thermostat is working - this is the biggest culprit.
