Electricity Usage

I've been averaging 310kwh for the last 2 years, before that it was 500kwh, 2 adults and 1 child

Ah - it seems my fridges contribute a lot then :/

I can try get a reading on my freezer to see what that consumes, but neither are the new efficient types

162.20kWh for July (2 adults)

To be fair, I have a gas geyser and stove :D

Start with the Geyser check the thermostat set that to at least 60c then consider a timer or the switch on off debate will go after this - but keeping at 60C is easiest and will have a significant benefit - lower temp will save more but then Legionnaires disease may be an issue

920kWh last month costing me R2K ! :(
Family of 3 with infant ... House, Large Pool (3-4 hours a day), 2 x geysers run 1.5 hours every day, LED Lights, Heaters in baby's room at night, electric blankets for a short while before we get into bed (and some nights so warm we forget to turn it off) , CCTV, 11 lights outside with D2 bulbs.

This excludes about another R500 spent on Gas Cylinders and also 300 on Wood!

I can't wait for Winter to be over!

Switching to a gas geyser saves a lot of $ as well and doesn't cost as much as you'd think to replace

I'll have to check the geyser ... as I can't see much else.

Aside from small appliances on standby, can't think of much else running barring a fridge and deep freeze.

Though, it wasn't exactly a full month 'saving' as the first week of July was still my old ways with PC / amps etc. I think August will be a far more true representation

Our geyser had a leak (small one, only got very big last week) and our electricity and water gradually went up. Maybe you have the same.

Will see from this month onwards whether it gets any better.

So, not quite the end of the month - but I'm happy with the results. One large difference from when I started this thread is it being summer and not using a heater - but still going to the be the lowest consumption in the last 12 months :)

Also checked my freezer (below) is probably be just under 60kWh alone - so a fair chunk of my consumption is just that alone. I'm going to try my PCs and home theatre soon for interest sake

That's an odd looking quoting :/

Plug this little thing inline between a plug and appliance, and it measures what goes though it. As for the LCD meter, that's given free with the smart meter and shows everything running through the meter
