Ellis Park: first Wi-Fi enabled stadium in SA

Yeah, give them WiFi access so they don't have to watch the match. :D

60k capacity. Let's say 20k people might connect?

Remember the in-flight WiFi test, where the router crashed due to running out of IPs or something- more technical details of how they're planning on achieving this would be cool..

10Gbps- is that the external link speed? You need a crap load of bandwidth for ~4hours a week. Not sure what it'll be used for during the week...

This is probably a pilot run for Saturday to see how many users they able to connect highly doubt they will be able to connect all 10 - 60 k spectators all at once. 10 Gig capacity sounds like a lot but when you have someone leeching torrents etc unless they will offer free services such as tweeting for free etc.


That bandwidth will probably be redeployed to the college if not being utilized fully or that is the capacity Telkom officially had during the rugy world cup 2010.

Would actually be nice seeing live stats on Saturday with how much bandwidth is being utilized
 
That is the only way they will get the Ellis Park stadium full nowadays.. Provide bandwidth for the internet junkies..
 
Would be a great test. All 9 people (average crowd for a Lions match?) will have a great internet experience, then they will forget why they went there...:confused:

I wanna see that work. When ive gone to big concerts there are so many people on the local mobile towers that they crash.

Everyone tweets and sends images. It kills the connections.
 
Anybody using wifi at a rugby match should have his man card revoked and forced to put on a pink dress to watch the rest of the game!
 
It will be congested the same way cell signals get congested, the only difference is that it is running on 2.4GHz with a smaller radius and on the 802.11 potocol. RF noise is still RF noise, maybe they plan to put fans in faraday cages

Truth.

So, theoretically, if you can get a few 100 of those people to record the whole game, you can put together a proper 3D recording of everything.

It'll be both 2.4 and 5

This is the first wifi stadium in the country, but they're rolled out successfully at other stadiums around the world (possibly why they were chosen?) They're pretty much unmatched when it comes to high density deployments and intereference handling

They will prob limit the protocols and maybe even websites like porn etc...
Torrents etc will not run....and even so...torrent geeks will sit at home :)
I also torrent but I don't go to a game for free wifi to download my torrents LOLOL.

if you are that desperate then I'm sure you will scratch around for an uncapped account.
BUT i will stream the game via supersport....nice for replays etc :)
that would be awesome!
