I received an Email from my own email address saying that my account has been hacked and that I should pay US$1000 into a Bitcoin account (Bitcoin address given) or info on my pc will be sent to everyone in my address book. Is this new or has it been around before?

Pay half to me to hear the answer, everybody wins

More than likely they actually did not hack you.. I suspect they only changed the friendly name to match your email address, which makes it look like the email came from you.. in actual fact, if you look at the email headers, you are likely to see that the mail from address is a different email address and where the email was actually sent from..

PM me the email headers if you are not sure what to look for..

Just delete everyone in your address book. Then there's no one to send your info to...

More seriously, it's a scam. Just delete the mail and ignore it.

It's a scam. No need to worry that your account was hacked. Also, stop visiting those kind of websites
