Thunderbird is on a fast development track right now to bring it into line with its Mozilla stable sibling, Firefox. Version 6 (beta) has just been released. Highly recommended!

Personal and work are hosted GMail..

use thunderbird for personal via imap because it is a pain to run 2 gmail accounts

Easiest thing in the world. Sign in to one and from there into the other.

Run gmail for most stuff.

Use thunderbird for work. Only reason I use it is because Outlook does not yet run on Linux. Thunderbird sucks balls.
