I received the following email from Telkom regarding my queries about ADSL and the support of IPSEC. It seem that some people in the forum have been able to use IPSEC to connect to VPN in other parts of the world, so I am not completely sure who is tellking me porkies here 
Dear xxx
ADSL, as the product currently stands does not support IPSEC. The
reason for this that ADSL is a managed network and by using IPSEC we
cannot offer the best effort service for our target customers.
SAIX is looking at additional products in future to cater for the
needs of it's customers.
Please refer to the DSL website http://www.telkom.co.za/dsl
periodically for new services to be launched.
