Email is not dead yet

What portion of that number is unwanted newsletters and spam?

That is where the underlying problem is: Back in the very early days of the www in ZA, I registered my surname as a domain. My email has always been [email protected] - that's 23 odd years of the same email address. Tons of it is utter crap. And that is just the one address. The other problem is...

Also, I strongly feel that email is moronic within your own organisation.

...this. Of the 5000 odd unreads on my work address, about 90% are things that do not impact me but because of my position I get CCed in all sorts of shît. It is overwhelming. So, I decided to unsubscribe from email. Almost completely.

How would you like to receive it?

I wouldn't, to be frank. If there is a task to complete, I will do it. Right now, I use my personal email as a place to get my monthly statements. That is about the only thing I read - the rest is information overload. A few years ago, I would go on an unsubscribe and blackhole exercise that took a day. Now, just ignoring the whole thing is a lot quicker.

Oh, you confuse business for spam. I see.

Was coming here to ask this, not a single IT professional would have ever said it.

Me, repeatedly. It has become trite. Think about it: a lot of what is said on email is either superfluous or irrelevant. And because the human condition dictates that people love the sound of their own voices, email gives those who would normally be silent a means to proselytise the sort of crap they would previously know to keep to themselves. The signal to noise ratio has become unbearable.

Zando sales, final notices, paternity tests, etc.
Zando. Lol. Jeans and T-shirts with some metal band on do not require Zando sales. Final notices are only applicable to people with debt. I have none. And paternity tests - well, let's just say that when a child is mine I run towards it, not away.

What will happen to email is AI - you will only have to reply to really specific emails

Like 99% of service desks and attached customer support. Yes, I overexaggerated, but still...

The difference is that it would be bespoke to your habits, replies etc. Not to mention having insight into your calendar as well as integration into your systems.

You will be surprised what live service bots with their API integrations, from wherever they are pulling their learning and behaviour from, can do nowadays. Yes, you are right, we are slowly 'migrating' into that direction.

My god - I think you just solved my problems. I must set some time aside to build a script that reads and replies to my emails. Or trashes them...
