'Embarrassed to be from SA???'

I'm not. I love this country. I'm embarrassed by the way it's being run, though.

Amazing how so many comments there agree with the writer.
Far different to just 18months ago.

:mad:im proud to be south african but ashamed of the state that the country is in atm

I'm neither proud nor embarassed to be from any particular chunk of arbitrarily designated ground.

wow, theres lots of comments on that thread.

Heads up to Saffers in OZ.

ABSOLUTELY.

Recently I was in Paris France for a week and a stripper asked me if I'm from Australia (she thaught my accent was Auzyish). I said ABSOLUTELY...MATE. She then gave me a free private show...tie me kangeroo down sport tie me kangeroo down......hehehe

I am definitely not embarrassed to be from SA... but i'm ashamed that ppl who commit these kind of crimes are allowed to call themselves South Africans...

In the 70's and 80's if a saffer(white) traveled to Europe we used to lie and say we were aussie or New Zealander because we were embarassed to say we were from apartheid SA ( and because they may spit at us etc.). It was so nice after freedom to proudly say we were from SA and to wave our flag. At this rate we will be returning to the old feeling

I AM NOT embarresed to be South African. I have doen nothign wrong and I am NOT responsible for what the peopel in charge here are up to. I refuse to be embarresed.

Having said that however, I have always been optimistic about this contry and never really considered leaving, until a short while ago. There is only so much optimism can do for the country. After that its up to the powers that be to turn the country into what we hope for it to become. Instead our hard earned tax maney gets used like its the personal sluch fund of the people who can get access to it. I CANNOT tolerate that and I will leave the country even if just to make sure that the money I work hard to earn doesnt get used by some theiving politician to take his fc_cking children to fc_king Disneyland!

FUNNY HOW WE FEEL PROUD WHEN WE WIN A WORLD CUP OR WHEN ONE OF OUR OWN GETS AN OSCAR....and then ho easy we say well actually I'm a third german or my granny was british ...so TECHNICALLY SPEAKING...actually I'm not really a SAFFER!

I'm just happy, speaking on a totally opportunistic level, to have recently written and be marketing a play about South Africa, which features rather a lot of climactic violence, and much nihilistic xenophobia and hatred from the 'bad guys' in the plot.
:P
art imitates life - or life imitates art - the eternal question..
