I have a Sony Vaio SZ-330P notebook with built in EDGE WWAN module.
Only operates in the GSM 1800 / 1900Mhz, not really used for data in South Africa (Yes, I've tried CellC / VM, prefer dailup)

My question is if the HSDPA modules used in DELL notebooks can also be used in my notebook. If not, any other embedded solutions? Although I have a HSDPA PCMCIA card, I would like to get embedded module working.

Isnt an embedded module built in(meaning part of the laptop) to the Dell Laptop? I mean, how would you get the Module from the Dell to work on your Notebook?

Most modules are mini-pci cards - there are other limitations like Sim-holders, antennas etc though.

I've openend my Sony Vaio - doesn't seem to be a removable card.
Sim holder seperately and antenna also fixed in notebook...

Anyone know which modules are used in Sony Vaio PCs? Described as "Sony Ericsson VDC Modem" in Device Manager

I'm busy looking at getting an internal card for my Dell. I see there is also a Dell 5520, which is supposed to support HSDPA 3.6. I'm waiting for a reply from them on if they sell that model in SA.

I am a bit concerned about signal strength? I glazed over some brief about the Dell having some fancy internal antenna system. Does anyone have any experience with a Dell and internal 3G?

Wouldnt the internal devices somehow cause interference with the internal antenae?

I have a Dell, and I must say the reception is better with the internal card/antenna than my E620 & external antenna. From what I remember reading the antenna is in the frame of the screen. I am not sure what the reception would be like if you use the notebook closed in a docking station with external kbd etc.

Cool!. I only have a doc at work and I use both screens (notebook + external) so that won't phase me (but I doubt it will make much difference).

I have a Dell XPS 1330 with built in 3G and it works like a dream! I've had no reception issues at all.
