Openview owner launches all-out legal assault on MultiChoice

eMedia is taking MultiChoice to the Competition Commission after filing papers before the Competition Tribunal regarding sub-licencing agreements surrounding the 2023 Rugby and Cricket World Cup.

This comes after an ongoing back and forth between the two broadcasters, centred around MultiChoice's restrictions on a sublicensing deal it struck with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

I doubt people care very much. They've found other ways to watch sport and most have cancelled Dstv sport already.

I am baffled as to the ultimate intention of e-Media. For a loss making entity (did they post a profit in the last reporting year) they clearly are intent on losing more this year. I also believe the "beef" is not about broadcasting rights or the lack thereoff but rather the previous issue of e-Media stalling digital migration.
