Emergency SAT3 cable repairs 12 - 15 May

Not that I know of...but with my back ground in the Telecoms sector this is almost always a problem...

To add another 10c and hopefully this makes sence to all...

Telkom is part of the consortium that owns and maintane the SAT2, SAT3 and SAFE routes. They sit in the middle of the route and that is why they are inlvoved with it all. Before the actual maintenance on the cable is done the effected services are moved to an alternative route to make sure intenational service is not interupted for a prolonged length of time. What you will experience is higher latencies to international destinations but service is not taken out of opperation.

Hopefully this will explain the availability of your internet service a bit better.

Just to clarify, they do not do maintenance on these cables, that is done by Alcatel on SAT3, not sure about SAFE. Telkom's maintenance essentially stops at the cable station, beyond their equipment it's no longer their domain.

O FFS

Wake up again to no international BW.

First Seacom ***s outs and IS ADSL clients are affected, then SAT3 ***s out and IS ADSL clients are affected. WTF is going on?

VERY IRATE NOW.

IS On sellers - some constructive and valid comments will be appreciated.

Thanks for the warning "D".
Telkom could not be bothered to mail me this info, even though they send daily usage reports my way with the greatest of ease.

I didn't think it would effect IS accounts much. My WA account was working fine this morning and they only use SAT3/SAFE. I would have thought that WA would have felt much more of an impact then IS who is using a lot of SEACOM.

The planned maitenance on the SAT 3 cable has been completed...

Remember, SAT3 actually have redundancy on itself unlike Seacom. So when there is maintenance on the one part, they put everyone on it on the second redundant path. Only problem is, if that second part also break (there is no redundancy during the maintenance) then they will have complete international outage. At least this is what it is like when you use the SAIX GOLD international product. It might be different if you have IPLC (layer2) over SAT3.
