Emigration: Would you consider Africa?

I travel a lot into Africa. Some countries are building a lot, they're in major states of upgrading infrastructure and data upgrades. Many of them are also safer than ZA, their governments and political parties are not as racist and so forth.

I'm thinking of places like Botswana, Namibia, Kenya, Zambia etc. Even if ZA went to the dogs, these country's are self-sufficient and one can live comfortable there.

So, would you or are you considering emigration within Africa?
 
Rwanda is Africa’s fastest growing economy. Not much going on elsewhere on the continent. Maybe Kenya?

Main thing you’re going to want to look for is a stable government - pretty hard to find in Africa, though.
 
Personally, no.

But I now have 2 friends that are moving to Mauritius.

Also met a guy last year at the maternity ward from Zambia, apparently it was cheaper to travel with his wife for the birth of their baby to SA, rather than that side in terms of private health care. Otherwise he said they love it there.

My neighbour used to travel to Rwanda a lot, he used to do security work for Unilever's tea plantations, he loved it there.

Common theme has been safety and security.

I've not been for a while, but spent a long time there a few years ago. I liked it.
The people are generally quite relaxed and easy-going. Government seems stable too although I know some African countries (and Malema) don't like them at all.
 
Our neighbour moved to Windhoek 8 years ago after selling his business.
He had been living in Pinelands and had been hijacked twice and suffered several burglaries, including killing his two dogs
He finds Windhoek‘s people friendly, the lack of corruption refreshing, he purchased a flat and the cost of living reasonable
It has a small town mentality, tempered by Germanic influence which tends to make it more conservative than Cape Town
 
If you are gonna move - do it properly. No point in exchanging one third-world shithole for the next.
 
Botswana is pretty cool, I wouldnt mind living there if SA fell apart. Some things are a lot cheaper and others a lot more expensive, so it balances out.
Namibia is great, I would pick living in Windhoek before anywhere else in Africa. It is small though and there are very limited work opportunities. I know of at least two families who will be retiring to Namibia in a year or two.

Those cheap items would likely get more expensive and the expensive one exorbitant if SA fell apart. Assuming most of their products go through ZA anyway.
 
I'd consider Mauritius if the money was right, but it doesn't seem like I'll be able to maintain the same standard of living as here. Their tax rate is quite low, but unfortunately so are their salaries matched to a high cost of living.

Wouldn't consider anywhere else in Africa though...
