Emigration: Would you consider Africa?

Namibia is great, I would pick living in Windhoek before anywhere else in Africa. It is small though and there are very limited work opportunities. I know of at least two families who will be retiring to Namibia in a year or two.

I had the same thoughts but what would the impact of a full SA collapse on these countries.

For me Namibia would be first choice because of work but Bots sounds like a great place to go as well.
 
Having lived in Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Namibia I will move to Nose Be Island in Madagascar. Had enough of this shithole now.
 
There is a massive untapped opportunity for a forward-looking African country to turn itself into an attractive permanent destination for skilled, productive and law abiding South Africans who have lost hope for South Africa’s future. An large influx of such people would dramatically accelerate economic, infrastructural and social development of that country. Of course it would need to offer migrants an environment of safety and security, good legal and health systems, guaranteed private property rights, a free market, entrepreneurial culture with appropriate incentives, acceptable quality of housing, roads, communications, electricity supply, internet, etc.
There would be a flood of South Africans heading for this destination if somebody could get this even half right.
 
I Doubt that any of our neighboring countries would be able to cope with the collapse of South Africa. Imagine the impact on a small economy like Namibia if a million immigrants cross the border from SA and need to be housed and fed.... so if you want to move to avoid the collapse of SA, better be as far away as you can afford.

Most of them would first have to cope with all their own citizens returning home.

Yeah I suspect there is a certain level of reliance on SA for our closest neighbours, I know for a while we were supplying power to them.
Namibia is absolutely beautiful at the coast, pretty much everywhere else is desert aside from a few little towns, Botswana is a lot more fertile and has amazing wildlife.

Interesting. Would like to hear more on your experience in Kenya and Tanzania.


I would like to visit the place before I decide. So on my places to travel to are Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda

Rwanda is a big underdog. Economy will be booming for a few years. They currently have massive infrastructure projects on going.
 
A few African countries I would like to spend some time in. I have always enjoyed my trips up to Malawi and could see myself retiring there.
 
I could do a small village in Tanzania, Malawi, or Zambia, preferably next to a lake. Would be a quiet life herding goats and dodging scooters. There'd be no WiFi so I'd have to go back to reading books.

Occasionally, one of my former colleagues would track me down and ask me to come out of retirement for one last job, and I'd say “I don’t do that any more”.

Namibia is an awesome place, I have several family members living there and visit regularly. To say there is a lack of corruption is not factual however. Check out The fishrot scandal as a recent example.

With that said the bad news in Namibia is almost always overshadowed by the bad news in SA. Its almost a hobby between locals to gossip about all the bad news in SA from crime to loadshedding.
