Perhaps somebody has relevant information they can offer me.
My daughter is going on holiday flying with Emirates. She bought herself a new suitcase (needless to say from a China Mall) but I am worried it could exceed the maximum size which is an aggregate of 150cms for the length, width and depth.
I measured it and the actual container size is just on a total of 150cms. However, if the maximum dimensions are taken including the wheels, the little stubs that it stands on if laid long side down and the handle on the long side then it is over 150cms by quite a bit.
So does anybody know, from personal experience or if they actually work for Emirates, if the protuberances get included or how strict Emirates are on the measurements.
Just on another issue with this suitcase, it is shaped like a clamshell with the two halves secured with a zip all around except for the hinged side. Since zips are fairly easy to open or just break, has anybody used a similar suitcase and had security or other problems or can anybody suggest practical precautions that should be taken to avoid it being tampered with or bursting open due to rough handling.
TIA for any advice.

Sounds like the first time she's flying, right?

They're not going to care about the size of your checked in luggage, unless it's an elephant.

You could plastic wrap the bag if you're concerned.

+1. Flown many times with Emirates. Their fine. I would definitely wrap the bag in plastic.

Maximum of 100ml liquids allowed.

Had a bag from china mall thing is just make sure its wrapped properly with that plastic they do at the airport and as for the measurements I have never had a problem with that stuff never even bother to check it think you should just make sure the bag looks like normal size.

Make sure the weight is right dont exceed the maximum they charge premium for that though

Thanks for the comments. Her bag doesn't look bigger than normal so I doubted that the size would be particularly important..
She's flown before but her old suitcase is somewhat buggered. It is me that's concerned since Emirates have upped the baggage limit to two bags of 23kgs and introduced the size restriction. Plastic wrap seems to be the answer in any case although I thought she might also put a couple of straps round it for extra durability since the bag gets handled again at Dubai before her flight to Auckland.

Only time she might have an issue is if she uses a domestic service out of Auckland
