Hi all,
I want advice on a situation that I personally am NOT facing, but people I know are.
Okay, without mentioning names - here goes.
A friend of mine sent me a message saying he is starting a business, he has X amount of posts for many staff but the company will start in JHB - but he is advertising for staff from CPT (for JHB) so they'll have to relocate.
Hard to believe? Maybe... But I know him personally, he came into money after a family member passed away, how he wants to spend it is awesome... creating jobs!
Anyways, I posted this 'offer' on a Facebook group and that is that.
Now, his little group of 'staff' did their interviews, told people (apparently) that they passed selection and are going to leave for JHB soon (very soon by the sounds of things, that week or the following) but they just need to 'iron' out a few things - these staff members resigned from current positions and well...
It's a few weeks later (± 4 weeks) and they are not employed, there are some very angry people.
Many of the staff are obviously from the unfortunate side of the scale (make of that - what you will) so they probably took the company on their word that they are hired, so I'm assuming here, they were VERBALLY told they are successful - no contracts etc yet.
Today I spoke to the guy (boss) in question, he said the only thing 'holding them back' is that their uniforms haven't been completed yet.
But according to one person; "the last time i phoned they told me the uniform thing is settled"
The (boss) then replied with; "Good morning all <company name removed> is in process of having new uniform made for the staff whereby all staff from <company name removed> was notified that the factory supplying are uniform are closed."
Another comment was added: "The other thing is they dont even call us and update us their phones r off they told us that everything is done we only need to do test driving and orientation and they never came back to us i was wondering and most of us quit our jobs bcz of their promises bt why they such a thing like that cz we real need a job they mustnt play with our future they must respond to this!"
Obviously now, what legal route can these people take against the company in question.
This company has/is stirring up a hornets nest.
Personally, I think he should keep his promises, take those staff he promised a job, hire them, and get them to work doing their thing here in CPT and when uniforms or whatever is sorted, send them up to JHB but nothing is being done and those people have resigned / quit etc their jobs which in my opinion is really not right - I don't know these people, I shouldn't care but I actually do.
Comments?
