eMule or any other P2P doesnt work at all.!

well the easiest way is to configure the app to use a proxy, the more advanced apps all support this so if your app doesn't have a socks proxy option, find one that does. The different protocols are shaped differently.

lets take torrents, they don't shape torrents to 8KB, not per thread or overall, what they do is tamper with peer communications, so you ask to connect to a peer but the request is dropped before it ever gets to that person. So they limit you to say 3 or 4 threads, but if the peer is willing to give you 20KB, then you will get 20KB. So all you need a proxy for is to redirect that peer communication.

Ok now it gets a little more complex, with a bridge, you send the request to connect to a peer over the bridge to a proxy but thereafter all the data the peer sends will come direct to you... so you will get at whatever speed the peer sends and that your line can handle. however with a normal proxy the data (when i say data i mean the peices of the file you want) is sent through the proxy, then to you so you are limited by whatever speed the proxy can send to you. Fast proxy = fast torrent.

but bridges are complex and very app specific so here's a little test involvig a proxy you can do. start a torrent with lots of peopel on it you shoudl connect to about 3 people over time, no matter how many times you click 'update tracker' or 'manual update' with your client. then put a socks 4 or 5 proxy in your proxy settings within the torrent app (like azureus), immediatly you will notice you connect to as many peers/seeds you can handle. but your speeds as I said will be limited to how fast the proxy is, so find a fast proxy, russians have alot or you can buy access to some (free means you have to try a bunch before you find a fast one and it could go down at any time, paid for means it will be fast and reliable... so the choice is yours).

Use an online proxy checker to make sure the proxies work before you try them or you will be there for a while because everytime you put in a proxy you need to save the settings and completley restart the torrent client

I am really confused about this whole torrent thing. Seems at times it does actually work. A few days ago blizzard had a wow update - did not download a byte in 10 mins, but last night i was feeling optomistic so fired up azureus to see if prehaps i could finish off a few torrents and quite surprisingly it fired up and downloaded at between 25-30KB/s.

Now this is vanilla azureus no clever (slim) tricks. So who knows.

Another thing i have personally not had any https "issues". So today had standard bank come around to install their business banking software, i whip out the ib as the other option is a tired 56k modem and guess what cant even log in. (remembered on the way home that the mtu on the work network is default so maybe that??). The thing is i was thinking about retiring said modem and getting ib for the office. Now what??

Ah slim you is too slim. Yup their was one peer giving me almost all the speed and 2 or 3 others giving 1-2KB so that is why it was working last night.

dave how many peers were you connected to last night? I theorise it was 5 max and they just happend to give 30 between them. But i guarantee it wasn't permanent :(

basically the more peers and seeds you can connect to the faster they will go, regardless of shaping

oh lol i was postign the above post before i saw you posting the post above the above post (say that 3 times fast), hehe

thanks for the info slim. Can you be more specific ie name a proxy which u know works well?? And would this work in a p2p environment like emule? Very much appreciated.

PS THIS is what the forums should be about - not slagging each other off all the time.

let me say torrents are as p2p as anythign else :p

ok i am coding a torrent project so thats why i work with it but i'm sure there is an emule client with proxy support in it... as for finding proxies, ok this is what will get me inhot water with somw users, so first a little note.

The proxy will let you connect to lots of peers, practically any proxy will but the performance is related to the speed of the proxy, so i DO NOT want people PMing me and telling me i'm wrong because they tried some slow ass proxy... TRUST ME i know this field I can tell you all you need to know but the proxy finding is up to you, if you use a slow one... look for a faster one or better yet pay for one.

ok having said that you need to first find a proxy checker, here is a nice free one http://www.checker.freeproxy.ru/checker/
that one lets you use diferent list formats and paste entire lists, it accepts the following formats:

proxy1.ru : 3128
proxy2.com:80
proxy3.com 8080

so the ip or hostname of the proxy can be seperated with a space or colon or spaces and colons, which means alot of the time you can paste lists right off webpages.

You're looking for socks version 4 or 5 proxies, http proxies are useless to you.
now looking for proxy lists, i could give you a million websites but just go google for them, type 'free socks proxy list' or whatever and it'll give you places with lists, then you take the list put it in teh checker and it will weed the bad proxies from the good then use the list of good proxies, there are also proxy scanners than scan ip ranges for open proxies, do not use those if you dont like going to jail :p

the site with the onlien proxy checker has a tiny but reliable list of proxies at http://www.checker.freeproxy.ru/checker/last_checked_proxies.php

the proxies there are checked about 6 times a day and if they aren't good another takes its place, i find maybe 2 fast ones a day there, but they do seem to stay up for long.

heres some i got from that site, they haven't been checked to see if they're up or if they are fast, so follow the instructions in the above post

Free SOCKS 4 proxy list:
202.147.170.199:1080
24.10.128.203:32167
128.2.213.23:9050
24.7.79.82:3380
24.23.120.96:3380

Free SOCKS 5 proxy list:
200.233.117.16:1080
24.10.128.203:32167
24.7.79.82:3380
201.248.5.142:1080
24.193.155.180:32167

remember in apps you will need to select the socks version of the proxy to get it working, so in azureus for example you set it to v4 for socks 4 and v5 for socks 5, the same principles can be used for any p2p app with proxy support.

Oh and one more thing, the proxy is for peer communications only, so if you have place for 2 proxies in your app, liek azureus has one for peer communicatiosn and tracker communications... use the proxy in peer communications

Slim, thanks man. I will try this and even if it doesn't work (Most likely would be due to my ignorance) really do appreciate your posts.

for those who care i tested on proxy fromt hat site and got full speed on a torrent... people in irc (#iburst on irc.ethereal.web.za) saw.... so maybe try some of em out :)

Can someone give me some websites were i can find nice torrents for download...i think for these which i found i have to pay...?

pay for torrents? i dont think so, fast torrents can be found at elitetorrents.org and lots can be found at torrentspy.com

Slimothy bro how about limewire?isnt it a P2Pprogram?
I`m downloading a music at the moment with about 20KB/s...
But i need emule thats the best thing...

the stuff above works with any p2p program/protocol that seperates the connection data from the download data so limewire would work. I don't actually use limewire so I have no idea if it supports proxies, nor with emule but I found something that may help.

If your app doesn't have any settings for a socks proxy you can use this program which will socksify any program ie, redirect requests to the proxy server
http://www.socks.permeo.com/Download/SocksCapDownload/index.asp

of course if you're content with 30KB/s or whatever and you're getting it then obviously proxies would be a waste of effort but they are great when you need to grab something quick once in a while and iBurst is being strict with the p2p shaping
