:confused:I have a problem at work with my boss snooping on my computer from time to time.
I would like to know what is the best method of stopping him from snooping or copying info?

Would encrypting the drive do the trick?

Any suggestions?;)

Hey Andrew ! Is that you ?:D

Is it your personal computer or does it belong to the company you work for ?
If the latter, he has full right to go into "your" computer then. Keep the porn for home bud.;)

What Kriss said.

If it's the work's PC then you can do diddly squat.

If it's your own, personal PC, then I'd recommend truecrypt as well.

Get a big memory stick, keep your personal stuff on there.
TrueCrypt works on memory sticks too.

The computer a laptop belongs to the company.
I feel my private stuff although on the works computer is my private stuff.
None the less the boss has found some....ummm..self made porn.
And freeked out.:eek::eek:

He should have asked me for info on my comuter and not snooped.:(
Anyway i told him to shove his job.

Big Kriss........No its not Andrew:D

I think there is some privacy law against this, im not sure tho...

bugger it, just use truecrypt to create a volume. It looks just like some weird kind of file, you can name it anything you want

Truecrypt is FOSS. Works like a charm though and has built in plausible denialability features. For extra strength encryption use a text file of random characters and store that on you flash drive. No way anyone can remember the key (just random characters) and thus you need to have the flash drive to unlock the file.

Sorry dude, but you kinda deserve it. Who in their right mind makes porn? Or looks at it for that matter. You must be lonely.

Self-made porn and work PC = FAIL.

I reckon the boss had all the right to check what was going on with his private property...

After all it's the bosses/company property and the height of Stupidity if you ask me!

Is there a bash.org for quotes like these? :D:D:D:D

I personally believe in privacy even on publicly accessible computer systems. Nothing stops you from using a USB drive to store personal data on. That is the best solution.

The guy asked for a solution to his problem, not the legalities of storing private stuff on the company laptop. We are allowed to do internet banking at work, hence I sometimes download a statement and store it on my laptop, not on a private flash which always gets passed around anyway.

So is TrueCrypt the way to go? I may wanna use this both at work and at home.

I use TrueCrypt to encrypt personal sensitive files / data even on my home pc. I have had my pc stolen before with a house break-in and some info I don't wan't in the wrong hands.

Same goes for "self made porn" :)
