Ok i have decided to not upgrade one of my contracts with MTN, but i want to retain the number i have.
How do i go about doing it?
Submit my request for contract cancellation & state that i would like to retain my number?

get it changed to prepaid after your contract has completed. Do close/prepaid request at the same time.

Yep thats what i intend doing.
Just want to know correct procedure & how long will it take?

contact ncq/nqc.

Sorry i forget the correct order. He/she is the MTN rep

As far as I know, the sim gets converted to prepaid automatically after the contract ends. I don't think you have to do anything.

If you don't give any notice you will go on a month-to-month contract and any discounts on your subs will be lost - you will pay the full subscription for the package you're on.
If you call 808 and ask for cancellations they can convert you to prepaid on the spot although the billing system will only pick this up the next day.

You can get your contract term date (the end of your 24 months) from the mtnactive website. Call on the morning after this date. I once tried to downgrade ON this date and they said it will cost R1000 because I was too early (I was literally only 8 hours early!). Left the shop and came back the next morning and the downgrade was "free". :wtf:
