End to ADSL monopoly in sight?

I'd be way may more excited if there were plans to open up access to SAT3. That's where the real broadband costs lie as far as I can tell.

Although it's been said before I'm sure:

I wholeheartedly believe that change mechanisms are immenently expected to be deployed across our nation in an effort to make things better and maintain a standard of delivery in the near future.

It's quite interesting if you look at newzeland, their terain is very similar to SA and they also have a monopolistic big player.

So give NZ a year or so and you can realy point a finger.

Even if she gave the telkom exchanges to SNO tomorrow, SNO will not be (and are not even planning to be) in a position to give users residential ADSL before the end of the year.

Let me guess, she'll announce measures aimed at developing "strategies" for formulating new 'policies' under which to hold colloquiums in order for industry to have discussions aimed at generating whitepapers whose purpose is to be used to develop more "strategies" ... (loop here) ... or will it be new policies that somehow drag on endlessly never actually getting signed into effect, or new policies that she "clarifies" at the last minute again?

Forget it, it's all stalling tactics, if they wanted to introduce competition they'd have done so years ago --- for whatever corrupt reasons she'll fight against introducing competition as long as she is in office. Whatever she announces will probably just be extended artificial protection of Telkom disguised as market liberalisation (e.g. grant Telkom the LL for some more years).

It's simple, just threaten to revoke her donut sponsorship if she dont do something immediatly about high adsl pricing

And it's seemingly just as I expected, she's only announced a vague "commitment" to 'various-things-that-sound-good' 'sometime'. As far as I can tell, she hasn't announced anything at all other than more 'intentions'. It's basically an announcement that she will "soon" make various other announcements (!) on, essentially, intentions to develop strategies/policies for doing various things.

IOW she's announced nothing and it's just feel-good political lip service aimed at placating the public for a while longer while we continue being gouged. It's standard government propaganda/PR.
