End to ADSL monopoly in sight?

NZ are in the process of unbundling their local loop. Looking to be about 6 months before ISPs will be offering the loop independant of NZ Telecom, but as far as prices go, currently one can get 14GB on a 3,5mbps line for less than R300.00 / month. We can but dream ( or emigrate ).

you cant just compare price vs price. you must compare what they earn also and what the alternative cost, for example compare difference in dial up vs adsl in NZ and in SA and see if margin is the same. you cant just say R300 in NZ and R10000 in SA so SA way to expensive.

Ok, well at a guess (fairly educated one) the cost of living in NZ is about 25% greater than SA. So from that prehaps we should expect broadand costs to be higher for Kiwis.

Your argument that because our dial up costs are excessive then so should our broadband cost be excessive seems rather circular to me.

Matter of perspective

We have all heard Ivy's point of view. I seriously doubt that she will allow South Africa to copy-cat other countries. We will rather do our own thing and not learn from outside experience. Afterall, the NZ folk don't look like Ivy :p

The fact that going this route will prolong the teleco's exploitation of the consumer and in the end be proven wrong is a moot one. We do not have the power or the say in how our country should be managed or run -> we are afterall only tax-paying citizens :(
 
This reminds me of the matrix rev. trailer .."It ends tonight!" but for us "It ends tomorrow" but then it would be a lie so rather "It ends immenantly" :p

So 4 to 6 weeks means 4 to 6 months.. wow. Tomorrow we see how far down their hands are in the cookie jar.
 
Would like to see what these measures are Ivy is going to announce. I think it will give a strong indication if she directly has shares in Telkom, by what she announces.
