I know the toll booth operators cannot swipe it, might be something to do with the credit/savings account combo thing it has, have not tried to tap it at the tap ones.

If you are doing a long distance trip, an e-tag actually works very nicely, and is very convenient.

One around here when you go in the direction of Alberton, don't know the name. Inserted the card and didn't work. Then had to go around and pay with cash.

There are Etag lanes and conventional payment lanes (I.e. Manual) that take cash and cards, and then you get card only lanes at certain toll gates.

Petrol and credit cards are accepted, not sure about debit at the manual booths though

I use my std bank cheque account card.

With the demise of e-tolls, I'd consider getting an e-tag for Bakwena now. Is there a prepaid option?

Have been using a prepaid e-tag specifically for the Bakwena tolls. This is a lot more convenient.

So when you approached a booth with a teller inside, they could not process a payment with your bank card?

Not sure if it was but the only option was the dedicated lane where the card didn't want to work or cash.

Are you sure? Some even have tapping now. Remember to update your advice file.

E-tags will also likely save on fuel if one of those e-tag lanes where you don't have to stop and speed up again.

I've seen a few - I think Zambezi and Stormvoël both have. But if I've gone through those gates 10 times, the NFC reader only worked once. It got to a point where I'm starting to wonder if the operators recognize them as a liability to their jobs, and break them on purpose.
