England call for goal-line technology

Is it really that hard for them to watch a video replay to decide whether or not to award the goal? Everyone at home with a PVR or similar setup can rewind and see for themselves. The technology for them to check if it was a goal is right there under there noses, they just need to use it instead of being ignorant morons.
The game can go on while someone checks and the goal can be added to the score, simple.

Nope ... restart VS goal kick changes the game layout completely. It's not basketball. :p

I'd laugh in lampard's face, england (note the lowercase) were awful since the group stage and that one goal wouldnt have changed anything. However i'd agree with tech being used for cases like the Mexican game where, up until the blatant offside goal, they were all over Argentina.

Also to be used for banning divers. Cant wait for 3Ns to see some proper fair play instead of the current devious cr ap

I'd LOVE to see TV refs being used to check for diving and offsides play especially.

Annoys the absolute crap out of me. That and the theatrics of every foul. However using a TV ref for these would slow the game down far too much. I'd prefer to see a citing commisioner appointed for each game. 3 strikes and you're out for a game will sort out the diving and much of the theatrics once and for all.

I'm all for goal-line technology being introduced. There is technology that can be introduced to determine whether a ball crosses the line entirely without referring to TV refs, and therefore not slowing the game down. However considering that it would rarely need to be used, the cost-benefit ratio is disproportional in FIFA's eyes.

I also heard from a FIFA employee about nano-technology being developed for the balls, which would give 100% correct digital offside decisions immediately to the ref and linesman. Combine this with the goal-line technology, expand it to the sidelines and you no longer need linesman. Although they do play a aprt in being the ref's additional eyes and ears on the pitch to an extent too...

I'm definitely in favor of goal line technology. It would be so simple to implement.
What does the TMO do anyways? there's always 4 refs at the start but you only ever see decisions made by the three on pitch?
I think theatrics are part of the game. And decisions should only be referred if the ref wants to give a yellow or red card. Free kicks should be left to the refs discretion.

I realized just now that very soon FIFA will be forced to use technology by technology. As you say, everyone at home can rewind, on public TV the broadcaster even does it for you. In another thread we talked about these replays not being available on the screen at the stadia because FIFA fears the fans might riot. Once a sufficient number of people receive the public TV signal on their cell phone this plan to control the people will fail. The only way FIFA's no technology stance can survive is to rule out replays which would need the cooperation of the broadcasting channel. Does FIFA have the clout to impose this onto their largest revenue stream? And what if future cell phones offer a replay button, even if it is just for a few seconds? FIFA will have to change, the writing is on the wall.

Oh please.

Would England have called for that technology if the tables were turned and they won against Germany? No!

Instead of being such wusses, they should drop the high life, the obsesssion with bling, the scandals and affairs they are known for back in England and concentrate on their game.

Germany was like a well-oiled machine .... ! Well done!

Everytime somebody gets a bad decision made against them they go on about introducing technology. When the reverse happens and a decision favours your team, that same team is quiet about it.

As far as i am concerned, leave the game as it is. This debate has been around for a long time, and I have to agree with Blatter, its part of the game. Teams I support have come out worse for not having technology, but hey you win some you loose some.

Yes bluno they would have, teams have been asking for the technology for years.

It would not slow the game down if offside goals and those england type incidents were referred to a tv ump, they spend 1 minute arguing anyway. England deserved to lose no doubt but the fact remains that ball was well over the line and at 2-2 the game could have swung.

That argentina goal was a mile offside, how on earth a linesman cannot see such a blatant offside amazes me. Mexicans were playing better at that stage and it changed the whole game.

I am amazed that the technology has not been used :(.

Germany deserved to win, whether the score was 4-1 or 4-2. But I think the point is that the rules of football arent being adhered to. Yes, that one goal would not have saved them, but thats not the point. The point is that the final score is inaccurate because the rules were not followed. It crossed the goal line, it was a goal.

In this case we were lucky that the final score was 4-1, but what if it was 2-2 and then germany scored in a penalty shootout? If that goal was allowed, it would have then been 2-3 to England. So in this case it might not have mattered, but in others it could make all the difference in the world. That USA goal against Slovenia (was it?) is another case in point.

But they wont introduce goal line technology, because football fans like drama, and the powers that be in the sport like it when the ref has a lot of power because it makes bribery more effective. So, it wont change. Just as the players like to scream like little girls whenever another player taps them on the shoulder, the fans actually love getting angry over controversial calls. If football wasnt so controversial sometimes, it wouldnt be as popular.

Exactly !

Did they ask for it after their previous match ?

Just a side question, who controls the English Premier League? Are they using tech there? And if not, why not? Is this only a FIFA decision? Maybe if leagues used it [that's where the money is afterall] it will actually become accepted in the World Cups.

It would also be ironic that the english screams so much about tech all of a sudden , meantime back at the ranch.....

Well, I had to give one of my co workers (Englishman) a lift to work this morning.. he's pretty sad.
I think TMO tech should help !
