So before I start this rant, let me just clarify my position: I have no problem with weed whatsoever, I'll take a few drags with someone over the weekend or whatever, no issues. I'm all for legalization etc. etc.

The problem is the people who go full out pothead/retard around the stuff and ooze those typical dumbass tendencies many pothead stereotypes seem to feed on. Even that is fine with me, the problem is this had now become something I see all around me and it's lately forced me to re-evaluate my entire circle of friends, especially my girlfriend. Yes, it now sounds like I'm surrounded by a bunch of losers. Thing is though, it never used to be that way, almost everyone I know works as professionals in decent careers etc. They're all in their late 20's.

Take my Girlfriend as an example:
She's been smoking weed for years now (met her like 8 months ago), and it tends to be a daily thing. Now, I don't like it but I try to live with it and not be a hypocrite (I like my red wine and smokes, so fair enough). The only time we really have issues with her pot smoking habit is when her habit forces me to compromise on something, like being late for a commitment because she has to light up, having to find a safe place for her to light up when we're on holiday, or when she hasn't had a J for a few days and she gets all cranky.

She knows I don't like her habit but I don't pressure her to give it up, I express my irritation in subtle ways and it has -kind of- worked over the past few months, in other words, there's been a few times when tries to smoke less (failing in the long run of course). Or expressed her intension to back off a bit.

She's been without work for months now but she finally found a job since the beginning of this year, the pay is crap though. You can imagine that when she was without work she used to smoke it up all day, I left it at that since I can imagine someone who likes blazing would obviously want to do it while waiting for feedback on job applications etc. There's not much else left to do.

My expectation of her, and yes I did express this to her, was that when she gets a job it's GO TIME and she needs to straighten herself out and work her ass off so she can get somewhere in the long run so she can finally be financially independent from "Daddy" who has to cover her bills.

Anyway, so this morning I walk past the bathroom and I smell it. Yes, she's lighting up BEFORE work now.
That's it. I've had enough now. **** this.

I'm tired of people who get blazed and sound like complete retards while thinking they're super intelligent.
I'm tired of people who can't do anything without blazing first (including things like going to the movies, or just sitting on the beach).

I'm thinking of sending her a message so we can have a chat where I tell her to **** off. Obviously my complacency isn't working and I have no intention of changing someone, they need to use their own intelligence, I'm no-ones mentor and I don't want to be.

Anyone else her have some comments or similar experiences with this?

Yeah sorry, I'm not good at keeping rants short... :o

Raptor, my only problem with this post is your support, and then abhorrent hatred of the subject matter -
If legalised, then lighting up before work wouldn't be a problem any more than a cup of coffee.

Again [IMO] could be completely wrong - your issues don't stem only from weed but rather several issues surrounding your relationship.

In my limited experience with people who smoke the stuff, when they do so, they become so unproductive that you just want to slap them over and over again until you get some response from what seems to be a sack of potatoes.

Now that's fine if it's in your own leisure time, but if you need to work, study, etc. then it's a bit ridiculous.

I smoke the greens frequently but don't smoke cigarettes, the lady does smoke cigarettes and I can tell you the one issue I have is going out to eat, shopping or whatever it may be and having to mission to find a smoke friendly zone every 10 minutes is the most annoying thing ever, not to mention having to deal with her smoking while driving. So don't be too critical about her habits as she probably could find 1000 things to moan about you as well.

I am a professional, albeit graphic designer :p but I don't think it hampers me in the ways that seem to frustrate you, maybe its more about the person than the substance at the end of the day.

Most of them just think it's cool. They watch stoner films and think "yeh bro, I wana be like that".

Sounds like you just have an issue with your girlfriend being a pothead - not potheads in general.

Dude she is a drug addict with a dependency problem and you are enabling her. She needs to seek treatment or GTFO.

On the other hand, there are people who are completely functional and productive when high, I've seen this in action as well.

Like anything though, if it's negatively affecting your ability to get done what you need to, then it's something that needs to be looked at. OP's girlfriend sounds like she is using it to escape, which is not very helpful.

No, legalizing an inherently recreational drug has absolutely nothing to do with making the choice to get blazed before work.

:wtf: "Stoners" are not all like that, I know multiple who are very energetic and lead very productive lives, not at all like the ones you see on TV, who are acting like complete idiots to emphasize the fact that they are intoxicated.

making the choice to get blazed before work.

I will admit that is not a wise thing to do. Its similar to having a few drinks before work.

Every time I see the post heading - I see "Enough is Enough, I've had it with these..... Potheads- Samuel L Jackson" the internet ruined me

It's not the same. Weed changes a person's personality mood etc.
That's where the problem lies.
It's no fun having to deal with the subtle (or not) idiosyncrasies that a person goes through when getting blazed, when you're sitting there observing this in a sober state.

I know. What I mean is that most of the kids who start are doing it for that.

No i think she has a problem and I don't think she'll change just because you asked her to.

My cousin "blazes" every day. but ONLY AFTER his day is finished and ONLY 1 joint. Sometimes he doesn't even do it depending on what kind of work deadlines there are, and he'll "reward" himself with a couple over the weekend if he completes whatever commitments he had before.

He was also a "blaze up before doing anything" type. But he got it sorted, works on it as a reward system and doesn't touch anything else, including alcohol. Not a single drop.

If she can't stop, there's something else wrong. Either GTFO or try and change her

No buddy, weed doesn't change a person's personality or mood. Their mood changes because they're more relaxed or whatever, like I said, there is some other underlying problem.
