Enough! I've had it with potheads...

Just don't get in her face about it.

That's the hard part.
Not sure if you've ever had a chat with a stoner like this one, but the moment you mention that stuff in a negative light the sparks fly.
Also, "don't get in her face about it", I think I've been doing that for way too long, maybe it's time to give her a nice reality kick in the face.

Does her 'Daddy' know?

They know about her weed smoking and her Cat history. Of course, she tries to hide it when she can.
I think they know she still blazes. I know they hate it but yeah, that's about as far as it goes. Doesn't change anything in their relationship with her parents though.

I think the reward system might be the only hope- that's if she's willing (and able?) to regain some control over the smoking.

You could do something similar at the same time with whatever habits you've got. Moral support.

Hope she's worth it...

Honestly,

There is only one way you will resolve this for yourself if she is going so far as to blaze up before work. Kick her to the curb, she will struggle to get over her "habit" and you enabling it will not make it any easier.

Do what makes you happy in life. Tell her to f-off if shes not on the same buzz as you, not doing this will only delay the inevitable.

Sadly, this is the direction I'm leaning towards.
The thing is this isn't some lame movie where boy meets "broken" girl, sits idly besides her while she sorts out her issues and they walk off into the sunset hand-in-hand. This is reality, life isn't getting easier (especially in SA) and I don't need this crap right now. She's a good person but the problem goes deeper than that.

I hate patting myself on the back but what I do know is that everything I have I had to work for (while partying, enjoying life etc. and not screwing yourself over in the process) and I have to take responsibility for everything I do or I'll have no one else to blame when stuff goes belly up. I expect the same from other people and get terribly annoyed when they don't respect the reality of their situation.

Respect is a massive part off any relationship I have with people and once the respect takes a dive it's all downhill from there. Maybe I'm just full of crap. I don't know.
Anyway thanks for all the comments so far. Just wanted a place to rant a bit.

Does she know how unhappy it makes you? Are any of her other friends concerned about her? Why not stage an intervention? I hear they work.

Dude she is a drug addict with a dependency problem and you are enabling her. She needs to seek treatment or GTFO.

This. Sorry to sound like a dick, but it doesn't seem like you are that attached to her emotionally...so in this case I would cut my losses and move on. If you love her deeply etc etc, then ja...stick around and help her out. But if there is nothing there...no future etc, move on.

When I see posts like this it actually makes me highly irritated. People go and group potheads into one category.

I have been smoking weed for the last 7 years almost every single day and I don't have any issues with it. I smoke before work and I never have an issue with sounding "stupid" or being "unproductive". In fact I managed to further my qualifications while high as a kite and still feel I learn something everyday and improve my skills every single day.

Dont blame the substance! blame the user as it is all about their personality and they way they choose to live. Every single one of my friends smokes every day and they also dont have issues progressing up the work ladder and getting promotions.

next thing, Comparing alcohol to weed is completely wrong, alcohol and weed do not compare at all, When you drink you lose the ability to control yourself, when you smoke you can still stay fully in control especially if you have smoked for a long time and especially if you smoke every day. Also go show me one case where a person has died from smoking weed (and only weed, not mixed with alcohol and coke and cat and this and that etc...), there are many cases of people dying from drinking. You just cannot compare the 2.

If you want her to stop smoking weed before work then rather explain how you feel about it and tell her to shape up and rather smoke after work, It takes roughly 3 days to get used to it. I stopped smoking before work now since after my leave in december as I just don't feel like smoking in the mornings, however it has not changed the way I function at work and has not made me work any better or any worse.

As for not having weed for a few days and it making her cranky, It is the same as the way cigarette smokers go a little bonkers when not getting their fix, it helps some people deal with stress and helps them relax. This is not the substance that makes them angry, it is their type of personality that causes a person to get angry over certain things as well as how long a person stays angry for, Do you get angry? cos your post seems quite filled with anger, maybe if you smoked a joint you would loosen up a bit and get rid of that anger a bit quicker rather than staying angry for hours on end like most people that need anger management classes. I am an angry person usually, before I started smoking weed almost every little thing would piss me off and I would stay pissed off for hours on end about it, now I get angry and I smoke a joint or hit a bong and a few minutes later I start to think straight and realise there is no reason to be angry over stupid petty little things, life is too short let me rather sit and enjoy the things that I enjoy.

TL; DR

Rather talk to her than being angry about it, if you dont like her personality while she is smoking weed then guaranteed you will not like her personality when she is sober. If you dont think she is functioning properly at work then talk about goals and set goals and get her to achieve those goals, There is nothing saying she cannot achieve those goals while smoking weed. I constantly set goals and never have a problem while smoking weed. If the goals do not work then clearly she is not the women for you.

is that all you can come back with? please refrain from posting unless you actually have something valuable to add. I dont need to prove anything to you and I am clearly happy with smoking pot and still progressing in life.

Well let's agree to disagree.

just as a point, one of my biggest role models in life and a well known man.

"Sir Richard Branson

He is the 236th richest person in the world, founder of the Virgin empire, which encompasses everything from airlines to record stores to cell phones, and made his entire multi-billion dollar fortune from absolutely nothing. Not only does this man smoke weed, he gets high with his 21-year-old son and says there is nothing wrong with it."

*sigh*
And here we go. I was wondering how long it'll take before someone comes to the defense of extreme pot smoking.
We can argue about this all day, but simply put: I've been around tons of potheads during my lifetime, even used to smoke the crap after work everyday for like a year or so. Point is it's irritating when you criticise the use of the stuff and someone treats you like you don't know what you're talking about. I don't give a schit what Richard Branson thinks about weed. What I know is that people who get blazed suffer from mood alteration, they have slow reaction times...and overall, they just become a little bit retarded. Hell, and that's fine, it's fun, but it's also simple:

Do I want people who blaze driving around? Nope.
Do I want to work with people who get blazed (at/before work)? Nope.
Do I want to come home every night to someone who lives with you not knowing if they're going to be blazed and happy, or rritated/depressed because their stash is finished? Nope.
