Entry level car service

Entry level doesn't really change the labour or work that needs to be completed.

Sure the parts can be marginally cheaper and number of cylinders impacts things like spark plugs, but otherwise the work is much the same.

R5k doesn't sound either here nor there really and seems about expected for dealer pricing.

That being said, if you are out of warranty no logical reason whatsoever to keep going there.

Most of you are missing the GODDAMN point, which is:

60000km is still a brand new car, so ALL services are pretty minor, comparatively ... and therefore the price tag of FIVE f*cking grand for a service is f*cking outrageous!

You need a beer

Complete rip off. Max R2000-R2500. And that is still expensive for an i10.

Unless something major was replaced. But just the general service. No ways. Don't go to a stealership.

That’s what you pay for a minor service.

Nope, that's par for the course for Hyundai.

And get rid of the warranty while you are at it.

Being a Hyundai it has a 5-7 year warranty and likely plenty of that remaining.

Obviously once that’s gone, skip the dealer.
Isn't there a law now that they can't stop you form using another service?

I did forget about that but it’s also not “anywhere” and they need to comply to plenty of regulation as far as I know so while cheaper you aren’t going to get backyard mechanic pricing.

Still, fair comment.

Had a look through my bank statements, the 105k km service on my i10 was just over R2k.

I think the most expensive service was around R7k, but that was a major service along with the front brakes, fairly sure that was the 75k km service.

Hi all,
Just getting a feeler here as not very car savvy, is 5k normal for a major service for an entry level car(i10)? Dealership prices seem insanely high. It's the fourth/60 000km service.
Don't Hyundai come with service plan up to 60K as standard? Or is it past 4 years?

R5k is probably 'normal' for 'major' at a dealership. I service my cars at Bosch and they aren't cheap either but cheaper than dealers and the service is outstanding (and you have got recourse if something goes south - something you don't get with a backyard mech).

Even non-fancy cars cost a lot to service when they get older.
On my Cerato, I have had two services at around R17k (suspension, brakes, etc). This years 160 000 KM service was R2500 at Bosch.

Serviced the GTI myself oil, oil filter, plugs, came to around R2500.00 I only use quality branded parts. NGK Iriduim lugs, VW oil filter which cost around the same as other popular brands, Oil strange the VW branded oil was almost half the price of the Castrol oil. Saturday morning about 1 to 2 hour job and done

Audi had to be dealer serviced for warranty R5K for an oil change - such a rip off, when its something you can do yourself for less than half the price and you will do a better job in some cases.

Can't comment until you post a scan of the invoice / job card.
