Entry level hosting price comparison

Interesting article, was just looking into a webhost for our business.

Seems to me that webafrica is one of the best values for money. Good local data traffic. I need only about 100meg of data space for our website but traffic usage might be high as email usage could be quite intensive. Webafrica has a nice data traffic allowance of 3gig for R50pm. Only drawback is that they only allow 7 different email addresses. Does anyone do hosting with webafrica?

I also need a good host that is reliable and can sleep knowing that they won't go down tomorrow, looking for a reputiable host. Any suggestions?

Just check out the overseas hosting you get so much more for your money, always got the fastest servers, they never go down virtually unlimited bandwidth. The Internet is meant to be world wide stop supporting people trying to make it local with local bandwidth.

Cheap packages often have their caveats, before choosing check the following:
  • What are data overage charges? If you go over your allocated data are you going to be paying R100 per Gig or part thereof.
  • What is the price of the next most cheap/expensive package on offer? Packages are designed with limits so that you eventually have to upgrade, will you be jumping from R29/mo to R100/mo?
  • What do others have to say about their service and support? Service matters!

More cheap South African hosting packages and not only those that are in the cheap (and sometimes nasty) range:

There are quite a few local companies that are starting to bring their prices and services in line with the international market - you really don't need to settle for tiny hosting packages anymore. I know a lot of people are worried about their sites not showing up on local search engines if they use international servers, but apparently Google ranks websites with a .co.za domain alongside those that are actually hosted in South Africa. That was my biggest concern anyway when I made my first site...

For SEO purposes it's irrelevant where the website is hosted. You actually tell Google (via webmaster tools) whether your site is for an international market or a local market. It also picks up information about your market and location from within the text on your website.
