entry level PC- any good?

Its just to run our day to day activities (using XP)- emails, office that kind of stuff. We also do a bit of text to speech conversions. We do have a gforce graphics card and may play some older games like thief, but nothing new.

On that I see that this only has one PCI slot and one PCI-express- is that correct? so can I use my graphics card and still insert something else- eg a pci-to-pcmcia card?

this is a replacement for a lightning damaged pc- insurance paid out already (see below) so I have around R1800 to work with.

We have been quoted R1840 for this. Where can I get it for less because Matrix looks to be about the same price?

The problem is that we bought and paid for something from these guys. They put redundant stock in, and now they are swapping it out for us, so unless I fight for my money back(which is sounding like a good possibility now), Im going to have to go with them.

If we go for better makes- Asus motherboard with something like kingston ram, what should we expect to pay? Please bare in mind that My hardware knowledge is limited and so I need to include installation and all that onto the price. (which also goes for what they have already quoted us)

You paid them R1,600 - R1,800 so you should get a PC/parts to the value of R1.6-1.8k.

What you've listed should retail around R1,300 max...

They should at least up the RAM to 4GB (only costs R100 extra). Let's say R1,450 now.

G840 would increase the PC to the correct value (R1,600 - R1,800) but you wouldn't really notice a speed improvement. I would still request it nonetheless. :p Costs about R150 - R200 extra, so let's say R1,750.

You see.. ethics need not be sacrificed for economical expediency !

Very good advice Pp.

EDIT: What are they charging him to do all this... their labour ? R250 ? R300 ? R400 ? That will bite into the hardware portion of the dollarz...
