LOL The pictures from the Canon 450D and Nikon D40 look the same.

I can see a big deference in sharpness and lowlight with the Canon 5D. If you want something sharper, get a 5D.

Re: resolution. Higher resolution doesn't guarantee that your images will be sharper. They might look less sharp even if they retain more detail. It's not an absolute and it differs from camera to camera. My 6MP images from my old Pentax K100D Super is every bit as sharp as the 10MP ones coming out of my 40D. It just doesn't have as much detail.

For interest's sake, I did some tests last night with the 40D, taking the same shot in full size and in small mode (7MP odd) - some low ISO long exposures, some high ISO short exposures, good light, low light, etc and compared them afterward. The lower MP images are as sharp as the high res ones. And the noise performance appears to be better.

But they do display the camera, flim and lens capabilities quite well.

Very nice. BTW (to add to a conversation hiding in some other thread), your images are quite saturated, even on my uncalibrated screen at work. Maybe you do need to check your screen after all?

I know. It's quite old. The new LCDs are much much brighter. I was wondering about this. I always keep the originals.


Does this look correct?

Detail is what I'm referring to, as you pointed out. The higher MP will obviously give it more detail. Sharpness should be pretty good/decent anyway, unless the person taking the images is an image Nazi :p

It's a pity the D40x does not have Live View. I really like the pics I've seen with the D40. Yes, the D40x (10MP :p).

You might want to consider that the difference could be the photographer and not the equipment.

Thanks for your help and suggestions guys.

This 400D is just awesome. Makes you feel like a pro.

I consider myself an experienced point and shooter - just gettting into the dSLR game now - damn I wish I did a few years back!

Now I dont need to Photoshop anymore to get the lens blur effect - in portraits.

I was thinking of going to a short course for acquaint myself with the functionality of my camera - any suggestions for the Pretoria/Centurion/JHB region?
 
Iv been shooting for the past week. My mate has the 450D. The pics look absolutely identical. Mine is a 6mp and his is the 12mp.

So that blows the entire mp theory out. Unless im just really bad at noticing the difference, but hey - even he admitted - thats its identical.
 
damn you are right ... this is one of the pics I took with the 350D last night - the one that a dealer lent to me to check out before committing.

I bought the EOS 400D today, will post some pics taken with it.
